I've already got my Top 20 Albums, Top 20 Singles, and 10 Albums Of 2010 I'm Looking Forward To done. Because I'm a super-nerd and keep a running tally year-round.

Not too much pop on the '09 lists, though. A lot of country.

Album of the year for me was definitely My Maudlin Career by Camera Obscura. Flight Paths by Pocketbooks is close behind...

I'm probably going to do a top ten at some stage. For top three albums I can't see beyond Camera Obscura, Jeffrey Lewis & Bill Callahan. But I'm looking forward to re-assessing.

I made a 2009 mix that can be downloaded with artwork and such here.

Though it doesn't contain anything from my favourite album this year, Es - Kesämaan Lapset--a very friendly, expansive, happily ambient/psyche record that nonetheless doesn't really lend itself to being excerpted and reassimilated into the flow of a poppy mixtape.

I've spent almost ALL of this year on the dole, hence very little pop purchasing has gone on.

I would still go so far as to say that the best singles were by Allo Darlin' and Standard Fare.
And the biggest KICK IN THE FACE I received this year was La Casa Azul @ Indietracks.

Also: The Middle Ones, Zipper, The Bumblebees and Moustache of Insanity have been FUCKING MEGA this year. Just off the top of my head, I'm sure I'm missing out loads of AWESOMENESS.
I am struck speechless by the nape of your neck.

The Tender Trap single deserves a mention too. Best thing Amelia's done in a decade me thinks.

This seems like an ideal time to mention our Festive Fifty which we're doing this Saturday at The Slaughtered Lamb. Send your top 10 songs of the year to admin@scaredtodance.co.uk and we'll play the most popular on the night. I'll post the final list after the night!

My favourites:

Darren Hayman and the Secondary Modern - Pram Town (a strong contender for my album of the decade)

and then some distance behind, in no particular order:

Why? - Eskimo Snow
Wheat - White Ink Black Ink
Sonic Youth - The Eternal
Project A-Ko - Yoyodyne
Raveonettes - In and Out of Control
Pants Yell! - Received Pronunciation
Seeland - Tomorrow Today

And there's lots of other stuff I've enjoyed this year too, it's been a good one.

I think that one would have eventually made my top 10 but I've only played it a couple of times.

You're right though it has been an excellent year for music I keep thinking of others which are amongst my favourites like Vivian Girls, maybe I should've done a top 40!

Yes... it has been a great great year for indie pop music.

Me and my wife will try to do (as each year) a double cd compilation with all the best of 2009.

I think in the list of the best could be God Help The Girl, Cats On Fire, Lacrosse, The Pains, Echo & The Bunnyment, Richard Hawley, M.Ward or The Humms.... but a lot of good bands has appeared to us thanks to indietracks... so we´ll try to do a 2009 selection and put it here.

Thanks for oppening the post

1. Eels – Hombre Lobo: 12 Songs Of Desire
2. Joel Plaskett – Three
3. Andrew Vincent – Rotten Pear
4. Bruce Peninsula – A Mountain Is A Mouth
5. Carolyn Mark & NQ Arbuckle – Let’s Just Stay Here
6. The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart – s/t
7. Rose Melberg – Homemade Ship
8. V/A – Friends In Bellwoods 2
9. Alela Diane – To Be Still
10. Dan Mangan – Nice, Nice, Very Nice

And My Favorite 10 Singles:
1. One Hundred Dollars – 14th Floor
2. Joel Plaskett – Through & Through & Through
3. Andrew Vincent – Going Out Tonight
4. Eels – In My Dreams
5. Dan Mangan – Robots
6. Ohbijou – Black Ice
7. Eels – That Look You Give That Guy
8. Liechtenstein – This Must Be Heaven
9. Green Go – Brains For Breakfast
10. Forest City Lovers – Phodilus And Tyto

Like I said, not a lot of indiepop, unfortunately. I love some good twee but I just haven't been hearing anything to wow me. Either my standards are too high or I'm not looking hard enough.

I always have a hard time with list making -- I want to make them and then I do, but as soon as I "finalize" everything, I realize that I've left something out or I want to shift the order or whatever, but I tried my hand at it anyway on my blog.

Some of my favorite albums this year were: Mirah's (a)spera, Rose Melberg's Homemade Ship, Rocket or Chiritori's Left Sounds, Dinosaur Jr.'s Farm, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart's s/t, & The Smith Westerns' s/t. There are a lot of other things that I keep wanting to tag onto my list, but then I remember they came out in 2008.
