In the Mountain Goats' Song 'Broom People', I had always thought the lyrics to be, "in the long tresses of your hair, I am a babbling drunk" when its actually "babbling brook".

Every time i hear Come Saturday by POBPAH i hear

"another wasted summer with no drama"

as

"...with no drummer"

even though i checked the lyric book when the bloody thing came out and know full well what the line is. Still, every time i hear the line i think, "yeh, i've had summers like that."

I think the lyric book is wrong though! Surely it's 'no drummer'. At least I always thought that too, certainly after reading this part of an interview I did with them:
Kip wrote:We didn't have a drummer for a long time - just a drum machine. Kurt kept on coming to our shows and had a cool Blueboy and Sarah Records badge on his bag and eventually Peggy insisted I ask him to join on drums. Peggy is always right - ever since Kurt joined it's been just so much fun and the live shows are a lot better than seeing three people play along to a drum machine.

have always heard it as 'drummer', even after seeing the lyrics. who'd want a summer full of drama anyway?

I'm really disappointed to discover that Fire Engine Girl by The Melons doesn't go "save you from angry champagne" as I thought but instead "save you from anguish and pain".

This almost as bad as when I discovered that "laughed nervously and talked to elephants" in Lea Green by Umlaut was actually "laughed nervously and talked irrelevance".

A friend of mine thought that the smash hit by the Sweet was called 'Dustbuster' (as she thought it sounded in the song).

That old glam-hoover sort of thing..

Was convinced 'til this morning that Grant sings 'My face is a Mosque' (rather than 'mask') on 'In The Core Of A Flame' by The Go-Betweens. I'd always wondered what the fuck he was on about.

In "Supercrush" by Tiger Trap, the last line of the first verse sounds like something very risque. I honestly don't know what the real lyrics are, but it COULDN'T be that! ...Could it??

I don't think it's that big a crush.

There's a bit in Catfish by Waxahatchee where I thoughts she sang "Second guessing Stan Lee / You laugh at me". Turns out and says "Second guess instantly".

The last line of the chorus of Allo Darlin's "History Lessons" always sounds like Elizabeth's singing about having a Red Bull heart.

It's well documented, but Taylor Swift does not sing "Gotta love these Starbucks lovers".

I'm sorry, I'm mostly listening to Taylor Swift these days.

I have yet to be convinced after all these years that the titular line of "It Only Takes A Minute" by Take That is not in fact:

"It only takes some vinegar (only takes some vinegar)
To fall in love (to fall in love)"

Not a lyric as such, but for the best part of 20 years I thought the sample at the start of Hobart Paving by St Etienne went:

"Do you think a girl should go to bed with a feller, if he doesn't love her?"
"No... what's his name?"

rather than "No... unless it's me"
