gah. i can't think of very many. i used to have a long list of really short songs. the only that come to mind are probably pretty obvious.

"over my shoulder" by the pastels
"wire greyhounds" by guided by voices

Some other mini-pop gems I have liked:

The Lucksmiths - $30
The Muffs - Happening
Lawnmower Deth - Egg Sandwich (ok not very indie... but funny)

I have a cassette I made of these in about 1992 at home somewhere, must dig it out.

I'll add....

Casiotone For The Painfully Alone - I Should Have Kissed You When I Had The Chance
Half Man Half Biscuit - Petty Sessions
Stikky - The Song About Annihilating Poseurs
The Bobby McGees - Ivor Cutler Is Dead

....and, just for the comedy value....

Napalm Death - Dead

Oooh! Defy The Law by The Orchids. Does it clock in at around a minute and a half.
And by me, I mean, Flexo.

So many!

Hmmm, how about:

Frank Mills - Lemonheads
Cockmuffbumhole - Town Bike
Get Up And Go - The Teen Idles
Nic Fit - The Untouchables
I Miss That Band - Paul Baribeau
Light Me - Rocket From The Crypt
The Heroic trio - J Church

...does hardcore punk count? MOST of that's quite short.

that IS a great song - and I owe that one to you! ;)

the shermans do some great short songs - of the 18 songs on "casual" (which is all i know by them), i think 9 or 10 clock in under 2 minutes... and they include my favourites.

at least 3 great ones by slgtm too: the obvious "alcohol", but also "the girls' distracted" and teh lovely lovely "labcoat"

"it's love" by the softies, of course!

and "game of pricks" by gbv...

man, i really really love short songs - and my love for them's growing apace with my ever-increasing love for 60's girl groups too!

I had a feeling it was on the 'It's a Shame about Ray' 10", the only Lemonheads record I own, but I can't find the record at home and the internet says I'm lying - so I don't know. I think that it was written by the two Lemonheads who were in Sneeze, wasn't it? I love it to bits, it's such a great song.

'Languor in the Balcony' by the Aislers Set is just under two minutes too and it's ace. The Receptionists' album The Last Letter is full of short-song prettiness as well. Kind of minimalistic perhaps but brilliant. I love short-song albums because they're a bit like stolen kisses, leaving you happy but wanting more. The Aventuras de Kirlian compilation is like that as well as the Motifs records.

Dunc, you are so right about 'The Foolishness...' being a short popsong trapped in the body of an epic anthem.

I found it... I got the remastered Shame About Ray and it was on that. Just listening now.

Well, this is a bit weird, but it's kind of great that Evan sings the "Jemima" part and Tom the "Jim" part - like Tom's girlfriend is jealous of their friendship (or is it more than that?!)...

My sister found a tape of us singing that song, that we did about fifteen years ago, just recently and played it down the phone to me and I got a bit weepy. I really miss her sometimes. But anyway.

I love this one, off Title TK

I can't believe it's 2 minutes actually; in my mind it's about 60 seconds. It's one of those ones I always wish were longer before I get to thinking how brilliant it is that they get so much into 2 minutes.

I also reckon it'd be absolutely amazing at an indiepop disco.

it's too personal; they're in love with their own guile

I can't believe no one mentioned:
Pipas - Run Run Run
New Postal Blue single out now on Cloudberry Records.
There are still copies of our Road to Happiness CD-EP here.

I love 'Scooby Driver', though I recall there was a longer version of it too, and it was also very good. 'Run run run', is, of course, brilliant, but I think my favourite short Pipas song has to be 'St Pancras'.

Longer version???!! I think I really need to hear that. Where have they released it do you know? The short version is so perfect though that any more seconds might ruin it a tiny bit...

You know what, I've been thinking about this since yesterday, and although I am certain there is a longer version, I can't for the life of me remember how I know this, or even if there is a proper recording of it. So I can't really help you with this.

i've never heard it, but i think there was an extended live version - i remember gig reviews on sinister from around that time (it must have been 2002-ish?) mentioning them playing it live in an extended stylee.
Never seen or heard of a recording (however bad) of it though

inspired by this thread i just made a playlist of songs under 2 minutes long. it's great! a lot of my favourites on there. deerhoof, max tundra, lullatone, the blow, tender forever, dressy bessy, mirah... and it's great for when you're getting ready to go out, if you're like me and can't stand stopping the music mid-song. heh, and a couple of buddy holly songs too.
