I liked Sleaford Mods before, and I like them even more now:
Jason Williamson decides the best place for our interview is a central Nottingham branch of Caffè Nero, where we start talking about the kind of music perhaps a little too soaked in classicism and pastiche for its own good. There follows a brief exchange about Miles Kane, the Wirral-born, Arctic Monkeys-associated, mod-pop solo artist– much loved, as it turns out, by the woman who serves us. With a look of amused mischief, Williamson then reaches for his phone, and shows me a tweet he fired off to Kane when the latter bigged up Williamson's group, and tried to become one of their followers. It informs Kane: "This music was born out of a hate for pretenders like you. You can either leave gracefully or I will block you."
As an example of Sleaford Mods' essential view of the world, this is illuminating – though so are no end of other comments on the band's Twitter feed (from this year's Glastonbury weekend: "I thought the dog had shit in my hair but then realised Kasabian were fucking playing")...

Great interview. Currently resisting the urge to sign up for a Guardian account just so I can call 'DanielDavies' a cunt.

No need - I see they've handily put a 'c' next to his nasty little picture as a useful shorthand.

If you didn't hate Catfish and the Bottlemen already (and listening to 0.000000001 seconds of one of their songs would do it), this article should make you want to track them down and "give them a good talking to":

From the press release their "people" appear to have fed Piccadilly Records in time for the album launch:

"Destined to be Sheffield’s next great band. Built on dreamy guitars and charming vocal melodies, High Hazels' debut album have a noticeably honest lyrical approach that lets the listener feel a part of a sound that has every intention of taking you somewhere else for a while."

That "somewhere", presumably, being the dingy, clag-inundated basement in which are abandoned the experiments that were discarded before the evil scientist finally declared himself satisfied with his creation, The Coral.

I don't mind the High Hazels. Not brilliant but not dreadful either. There's a lot worse in Sheffield.

Summer Camp being referred to in the new Q as "twee-pop pioneers" has already muddied the genre waters well beyond use.

After weeks of being passively annoyed by it, listened to the actual words of that Royal Blood song that 6music are playing at the moment. Jesus wept it's an absolute abomination.

It's not even as good as that.

Two observations:

1) Why bother forming a drum/guitary duo, as regardless of whether it's the drummer or the not-drummer doing the vocals, you're still never going to be remotely as good as Humousexual? (see also: Slaves)

2) I notice that one half of the Royal Blood beat combo is a Ben Thatcher. I must say I preferred him in his previous incarnation as left-back for Millwall, Wimbledon and Wales.

It sounds like fucking U2. Why are young people making music that sounds like U2?

Perhaps it's slightly dickish to pick on an unsigned band like this but they are from my hometown so I figure they are fair game somehow.. I present to you - The Carvetti's

From their online missives they fire shots at "manufactured pop" and suck up to Supreme Overlord of boring indie Noel Gallagher. They are, quite frankly, fucking ghastly.

My band has just been followed on Twitter by another local band who describe themselves as "indie pop", look absolutely nothing like an indiepop band, and have perhaps the least indiepop band name I have ever heard.

Indie pop vs indiepop. What a difference a space makes.

Is their music indiepop though? You didn't specify...

That's because I haven't listened to it!

Seriously, you can tell what they'll sound like just by looking at their photo.

They could be great. You're judging the book by its cover, Green. Or the indiepop by its band name.
