There has been a lot of that kind of thing, particularly around C86 in particular, where I don't think a scene has ever been quite so reviled for simply not really giving a shit what anyone thought and not being a rock cliche. I had hoped that hearing Joanna Gruesome on 6music pretty much every day for months was a bit of a turning point, though. Guitars have, to some degree, become old hat to kids as they're thought of as old man's music; what JG may show them is that you can make a guitar record which is as full of life as a new Stones/Neil Young record is full of tedium. If there's any sort of music that can reaffirm interest in the guitar with 'the youth of today' (have you seen him lately), it ought to be this. It's certainly not fucking Alt-J, etc. To be honest, I can't even remember their names anymore.

For me britpop is as relevant to indiepop as Bryan Adams or U2.

And do we really care if other people look down on us?

And if it is just for us oldies then that's fine. The young folk make their new music in the way that excites them our other forms of art if music is no longer their thing. Though I still see young people making lots of new exciting pop music.

We should embrace it all and be happy being us no matter what the rest of the world does/thinks.

And if the audiences dwindles to the point that it's just me playing Talulah Gosh covers on my mandolin to pigeons in the park I'll still be happy.

I'll pay to see that. Can I put in a request for 'Testcard Girl'? I want to see you do the screams.

Haha, I just gizgoogled my blog. This (beginning of a) Pete Green review just got a whole lot more interesting:

"In mah mind Pete Chronic has been round forever – I interviewed him on dis Snoop Bloggy-Blogg 6 (!) muthafuckin years ago – but afta checkin I now know it’s true: dis is straight-up his fuckin lil' debut solo mixtape. Da main playa behind Da Regulars, Da Pete Chronic Corporate Juggernaut n' Da Sweet Nothings busted out some pimped out singlez under his own name a handful of muthafuckin years back yo, but never gots round ta makin it full length. Until now, wit ‘Da Glass Delusion’.

Jesus fucking christ. They're like a turd, supposedly flushed, which hides round the U-bend for twenty years before coming back to revive the stench of brit-pop in all it's opportunistic foulness. Ladies and gentlemen, look who's back…

That Letterman Performance, wherein a talentless wanker attempts to disguise his desperate need for the toilet by incorporating his avoidance strategy into his dance. To be fair, it could be genuinely great, only I never get more than about ten seconds into the vocal without wanting to vomit on the computer and have to take avoidance strategies of my own. How this man irks me. Particularly in the still here, he looks like an even more punchable Niall Ferguson, which I didn't think was possible.

I've triple posted. Sure there's a law against that.

I kinda like Future Islands. I can see how his voice might divide opinion mind.

His voice annoys me, but it's not so much the like/not like business, I like all sorts of shit that everyone hates (I found myself listening to the entire Colourfield album the other day, rather than just 'Thinking Of You' and then running away). What it is with Future Islands is more the whole 'this is a defining moment in rock 'n' roll' thing that the press is doing about this clip (which to be fair I didn't really expand upon, er,… at all), which sort of defines the whole revolution of lowered expectations in music at the moment. It annoys me that someone sings an offensively inoffensive synth pop song and does a crap dance whilst looking a bit bug-eyed and we're all meant to bow down to the future. Something appears to have gone wrong.

Not that I've got anything against synth pop per say. I noticed on another thread that you liked Sleigh Bells and it made me feel less alone regarding them (it was you, wasn't it?).

I guess some people have blown it out of proportion a little, but it is one of them genuine viral phenomena that you get these days. Plus I'd prefer someone doing something a bit odd and making a cock of themselves to a bunch of blokes standing around trying to look cool.

I do like Sleigh Bells so its entirely possible it was me what said I like them somewhere on here.

Ay, that's true enough, I just didn't see it as Sparks on Top of the Pops or something.

I think I'm getting increasingly crotchety and bad tempered about these things in my old age - I remember when there was music, real music mind, not these new fangled Future Islands types with their fancy dances, in my day you could get two 7" singles for a fiver, with wraparound sleeves in poly bags, real PVC mind, not what you'd get today, etc, etc. - it probably needs to stop. This kind of cheap nostalgia exerts an unhealthy power over me. It's not that I think my point was wrong, I just look at what I wrote to start with and feel it's probably not worth getting quite so arsey about.

Still, at least we can agree that Sleigh Bells aren't a chuffing racket, as some would have me believe. Ah, the unifying power of the internet! I'd better go before I start on Kasabian...

Hang on, what? That band that always seems to be playing loads of Upset The Rhythm gigs is famous now, and on TV and stuff? How did that happen?

I've been trying to pin down who he looks like for ages! It's more like Brando's unsuccessful younger brother, the one who oughtn't to have been a contender yet, for some unfathomable reason, has ended up being by default. God, you've got me started again...

Speaking of boring indie, I'm currently watching (read: enduring) Elbow at Glastonbury on the television, and am reminded how lucky we are to have each other. Indietracks is only one month away.
