The *thing* Miles Kane's done with Professor Green is just the worst. At least he's laughable enough to generate lulz.

miles kane seems alright. likeably dim.

i saw his old band The Rascals years ago (playing with my then-faves Victor FME - wish they were still around: http://www.myspace.com/victorbrokeup) and they were pretty dull. i think they managed a handful of singles on Deltasonic before splitting up. three of em became The Rascals, who were utterly dreadful. think they toured with Arctic Monkeys or something. that's how The Last Shadow Puppets happened, and i think that's the only reason anyone seems to think miles might have anything interesting to offer

it's weird that no-one's noticed that everything he does and says is massively dull

still, seems a nice enough chap

I was almost going to give them the benefit of the doubt until the kazoo solo.

In unrelated boring indie news, "Nicole Diver" once sexually assaulted the singer of Razorlight. True story.

That does come across as depressingly contrived.

I'll give it the benefit of the doubt... And add it reminds be of standard fare for extra "persona non grata" points

yeh, same here. albeit standard fare covering the kooks.

i didn't find it particularly good or bad, which in a way is a strong reason to loathe it completely. i suppose.

It couldn't remind me less of Standard Fare. This sounds, to me, like it's being forced through a tea strainer, whereas Standard Fare were so natural and not at all effected.

Plus, what the fuck is the ice hockey thing?

they're from minnesota, perhaps that's a thing there?

I'd say there are some similarities to standard fare, I'm not getting the contrived thing, it's not to my taste but if the band bio is true they're not some manufactured for the sake of an ad type band, nor do they seem to be ex-'talent' school johnnies assembled to make somebody else some money

it's not a million miles away from a lot of bands I've seen at various indiepop do's, the sort of band I tend to step outside for (ominous), so not my thing but I'm not clear why they're 'boiling your piss' so much?

do you need a weekend away from all this?

The only similarities I can see/hear to Standard Fare is the female singer, male t'others bit.

The ice hockey thing is annoying me beyond all reason.

i don't think they're a carbon copy or anything, but some of the phrasing, bits of her delivery and the rhythms are a bit SF-ish to these ears

so it sort of sounds a bit like them without really sounding much like them at all

anyway, i didn't find it hateful.

I didn't really mind it either to be honest, but then I didn't make it as far as the kazoo solo. I wouldn't have been surprised at all to have come across them playing at an alldayer.

In the interests of balance, I listened without watching the video as I knew it was going to annoy me.

It was OK. Not hateful. Although interestingly they've managed to write a song without any chorus or memorable hook except the backing oooo-oh-ooooo-ooooh bits, which every indie-folk Tom Dick and Harry have to shoehorn in their songs these days as a record company mandated contractual obligation.

I blame Edward Sharpe and his Magnetic Zeros.

I was once in a band where the drummer insisted on playing kazoo in a cover of What Do I Do Now? by Sleeper. Oh how we laughed.

Why is she using an electric guitar to mime the video when its an acoustic guitar on the record? Pah.

Come now, nobody would even have noticed this song it if they hadn't had any money to spend on a video. There's tracks that irk me more on the, mostly brilliant, Indietracks comp.
