I'm certain "two northern idiots, sort of northern Del Boys, lads who are daft as a brush" is taken verbatim from Clement and Le Frenais' original pitch. (Which would have been farsighted, given Bob and Terry predate OFAH by seventeen years)
I was so hoping Likely Lads were going to be a tribute band to Bob and Terry. They're even based within 100 miles of Newcastle. Geographically it was looking good but there's no mention of any of the characters in the song titles. Admittedly I can't be bothered to listen to the songs to check.
The Likely Lads is being repeated on BBC. It's not really funny, more a study of two repressed northern men. I could have sworn I heard my parents laughing uproariously at it forty years ago while I was tucked up in bed waiting for punk rock to happen. Maybe they were making comical love in the sitting room instead.
I love Tigercats but one track on the lp does sound like Vampire Weekend. I'm not ashamed to say I like the first Vampire Weekend lp. I thought making people feel guilty about what they liked went out of fashion after that rather embarrassing disco record burning event in the US some thirty years ago. The fact is if someone likes something you regard as crap they won't change their love of said crap no matter how much you rage and rant at them. Even a sensible proportionate approach fails. I've tried both. But I've grown up now and accept that people like what they like and despite me playing them the Deep Freeze Mice every day for a month (I'm looking at you, my wife) they won't change their minds.
I caught Miles Kane (sounds like some flamboyant desease that) on equally-as-shite Soccer AM yesterday whilst channel hopping. Now there's a band/man that was fit for this subject. I should gouge that fuckers eyeballs out with a teaspoon.
I never trust artists that try to put far too emphisis about clothing than their own lose-the-will-to-live music. Will bands ever stop trying to look, feel, think that they're in a clichéd version of 1967? They always look far more like Austin Powers than Roger Daltrey.
God this thread don't half bring the worst out in me. Can a mod ban me from this, for my own sanity please.
at the end of that hair video you can almost hear tim lovejoy muttering 'oh yes, they are going to be huge, the hair... simon, what do you think of the hair? are they going to be huge?' and simon rimmer saying 'I dunno, there's a lot of that sort of sound around at the moment' and then they make some bacon and egg vol-au-vents

it reminded me of the cure
There is an interview with them somewhere in which they describe themselves as being different from every band ever because they use a keyboard.
Yes I looked up interviews for them. It's been a slow morning.
also, I thought miles kane was that 'comedian' from essex who wears mascara ('I'm from essex, yeh, I know, look at the state of me, and I come from essex- imagine that! showing my dad my nails, look at my nails, dad- and I'm from essex, yeh I know, what am I like?')
so now I know who he is I don't really find him that offensive or necessarily boring (anodyne is more apposite) but I do hate the awful fucking respectful reverence and cringing mock gravitas that nme clip affords him... when did that become the norm?
ask him questions about biscuits, for fuck's sake, and film him going down a slide repeatedly
The thing that amused me most about the Miles Kane interview was the fact that it was just so vacuous. Nothing he said had any substance to it whatsoever (and a lot of it made about as much sense as his lyrics). I was also a bit freaked out by his hair in that video where he was jumping around on stage with his geetar. For some reason I was reminded of the Ben Stiller character in Dodgeball...
