i've just turned it on in sweden, cause i could hear happy swedes in the flats around me cheering along and singing along too (it must surely have been their own entry) Theres fireworks going off all over the place as well, surely a coincidence?

Its not the same without Wogan making xenophobic comments about all the other entrants, i have to be honest.

The French song? Zut alors! What a song! The singerer reminds me of the singerer from Herman Dune.

It's a catchy little belter of a tune.

spain have let themselves down. that song was a monstrosity, especially when you think that they could have had this:

poor show, spain. poor show.

pay attention at the back there! we've been discussing it in the 'pithy observations about tv' thread.

maybe we can split the posts from that thread and put them in there. i'm already half-pissed on gin, so it might have to wait til tomorrow.

Hee. Sebastien Tellier is awesome. My cousin called me when I was home at Easter and was like 'Guess who France has for Eurovision?' and I was like 'Er, Celine Dion..?' and when she told me it was Tellier I wouldn't believe her. Someone with credentials?! Insane.

But he is great, isn't he? Sleazy, but great. When he played Stockholm the other week, he wore his sunglasses on indoors, defied the smoking ban and only spoke French even though the crowd doesn't. An odd man.

Gav, you're in Sweden during an insane time of the year. We take Eurovosion ridiculously seriously. Seriously. It will be the front pages of every newspaper, good and bad, tomorrow. It has been of the tabloids for weeks. They have a billion journos out there, covering every press conference, reporting live from the rehearsals etc.

I doubt France will win. I think a lot of people just don't 'get' it, even if it is bloody brilliant.

One of the Swedish newspapers who are live reporting on each song said 'Balkan ballad number 72' about Serbia, which I can agree on... there sure are a lot of them. I'm sure one of them will win.

Isn't the Danish entry very Mika-esque? It was a trend in the Swedish competitions this year. About three of the ten in the final were different versions of Grace Kelly.

Haha I'm not even drinking! I am just excited anyway.

It's me and the cat. Chillaxing, eating dinner (er, a bit late I know) and JUDGING the entries.

I bet Sweden'll be in the top 5. Probably not win, which totally pains me. WE MUST WIN.

Except that I have heard this tune with the lyrics "all night long" somewhere. Unless, somehow I've managed to hear the Danish entry without meaning to = but that seems unlikely

What the fuck were Spain thinking? And where was the singing Irish duck?

My prediction is Ukraine.

It's a weird contest because there are so many different types of music. It's the old traditional stuff, the new 'Britney ten years too late' kind of stuff, plain odd ones that don't fit in anywhere, and chart stuff. I have no idea who will win, it can be so damn unpredictable.

I'm feeling increasingly certain it's not Sweden though.

Jonny allowed me to vote three times for Sweden, so now I have. Not more. Because that is what would be ridiculous.

I just feel like a Eurovision spy on behalf of Sweden, infiltrated in this country so I can vote three times each year for Sweden, despite being from Sweden, thus biased. Mohahaha!
