Re: my bloody valentine
I don't know if this is of any interest to people, but there has been a whole bunch of MBV stuff reissued on vinyl recently:
- Ecstasy
- You Made Me Realise/ Feed Me With Your Kiss
- Sunny Sundae Smile/ Strawberry Wine
- Glider/ Tremelo
The latter 3 are 12' singles combined to make mini-albums - therefore making 4 mini albums in total.
From looking at the Rough Trade website, they were all reissued on vinyl on 18 Jan this year. Link here:
http://www.roughtrade.com/site/shop_res ... +valentine
There is also the Geek ep, and this is your bloody valentine and things left behind. This is just my personal opinion (of course), but don't bother with any of those!
The other ones listed are all about £11 each. All of them are well worth buying.
The thing is - pre- isn't Anything they were a great indiepop band as opposed to the noisemongers that they became. So from an indiepop front, definitely buy Ecstasy and Sunny Sundae Smile/ Strawberry Wine - and You Made Me Realise 'double ep' is worth it for the YMMR ep alone..

Re: my bloody valentine
having sunny sundae smile & strawberry wine together is prety great.
for me i would have liked geek and sunny sundae smile to be released together as they're the two i don't have - plus a lot of people would have strawberry wine from the stawberry and ecstacy release froma few years back

Re: my bloody valentine
WFMU posted a 'kids covering my bloody valentine at home' special the other day and there's something very cool and right about that (that they're at home and kids and some of them are wearing their pyjamas)

Re: my bloody valentine
I refuse to listen anything on computer (I want shoegazing not screengazing) so in my world the album isn't out yet. Can't wait to hear it though, just placed my preorder..
What happened to that Loveless (vinyl) reissue that was coming out in 2012 by the way? Did it go back to Kevin Shields' secret laboratory for another 20 years?

I hope I've not just given 23 quid to Kevin Shields' Ponzi scheme...

Re: my bloody valentine
I like when artists release things unexpectedly. You don't have as many expectations in the build up to the release date that you can just listen to it for what it is, before journalists or others get to it first. We all experience it together at the same time. Not sure where this rambling post is going so I'll stop. Final thought- mbv=great record, shit album art though....

The summary for this thread on the tapatalk app on my phone just showed the first six words of your post which seems very appropriate for mbv.bullyhuff wrote:I like when artists release things

2/9 ain't a great hit rate though, so it's a thumbs down from me

Re: my bloody valentine
Ha that's me. I just did that sort of as a demonstration of how that's my favorite guitar and how you can warble without a whammy bar (because I always lose it) and then it got blogged and now I wish I did a better job.a fog of ideas wrote:

It's a bit lifeless really - isn't it? It's too damn pleasant for the first 6 or 7 songs too. Agree the last two songs are a lot better. I'll play it a lot more to see whether it gives more over time (oh the irony). It sounds like a sister record to Loveless but less good. And Loveless was until M B V probably my least favourite record of theirs anyways.indiansummer wrote:i think it's really dull until the last two tracks, which are DEAD GOOD

Re: my bloody valentine
Those last two tracks are great. I also really like the quieter one without any drums (track 4, can't remember any of the song titles yet). There's one really rubbish one though. Sounds like they've tried to go pop and failed miserably.indiansummer wrote:i think it's really dull until the last two tracks, which are DEAD GOOD

Re: my bloody valentine
I admire your persistence. I listened to the first couple of songs, turned it off and basked in the glory of the previous night's popshow.

this bit from Collapse Board's review made me giggle:Dan Pop-o-matic wrote:There's one really rubbish one though. Sounds like they've tried to go pop and failed miserably.
arf!the nadir, the absolute worst thing the band’s recorded since they stopped sucking back in 1988. ‘new you’ is so uninspired that, Belinda’s vocals aside, it sounds like ‘All Together Now’ by The Farm but a little slower

Re: my bloody valentine
I heard a track on the radio the other day that sounded like a shoegaze cover of 'Gold' by Spandau Ballet.
That's not a value judgement, just an observation.
