Oh, and if anyone's interested..
Owen (Mike Kinsella) has announced details of a UK tour early next year.

February
2nd - Brighton Green Door Store
3rd - Newport Le Pub
4th - Nottingham Glee Club

A London show is still yet to be confirmed.
I'll be at the Nottingham date.

I suppose this is more emo but there isn't an emo thread is there.

can't remember if we have an emo thread. this could have gone in the joan of arc/cap'n jazz thread if you really wanted to be picky about it, but who does? not i

Came across this for the first time the other day - quite a good 'un.

Like others hither and yon, I fanny around at music - my band is always on the look out for other bands to split releases with. Any cockamamie idea considered - cassette, 7" vinyl, yellow flexi disc, wax cylinder and shellac 78s. PM me. ; - )

went to an all-dayer yesterday (or at least it was supposed to be an all-dayer. in the end it started at about half six/sevenish)

some ace stuff - Crocodile God (i'm not in them any more), Salem Rages, Bangers - and some stuff that's resolutely not my cuppa cha

but Mikey Erg was amazing. loads of hits, some ace new stuff, and he was a lovely guy to boot. Introducing Morrissey and Pray For Rain are two of the best songs i've heard in the last ten years. lovely stuff.

I was in a chinese restaurant the other day and noticed a guy leaving with takeaway. He was wearing a Bangers patch AND a NN2S patch. Chinese restaurants in Brum are totally full of cool punk dudes.
I am struck speechless by the nape of your neck.

I'm totally into Brain F≠. Really dirty but catchy pop punk http://disdisdistort.com/brainf/
Their album 'Sleep Rough' is one of my favourites of 2011.

I'd have a word with the very lovely Buz in Brighton from our own pages (http://anorakforum.com/memberlist.php?m ... ile&u=2819) who runs the Punker Bunker shop / distro.

He should put you right on both counts!

Some of my top punk picks from the past few years include Vapid, Overnight Lows, Mean Jeans, Bracelettes, The Real Numbers, Psyched To Die, Night Birds, The Sceptres and... do Milk Music count as punk? I think they're punk. But if I go too far down that line of thinking, I'll just list every band I like in every genre and say "WELL I THINK THEY'RE PUNK".

Ah, great - that gives me a nice opportunity to do some word-spreading!

Vapid are from Vancouver and sound not unlike ‘Pussywhipped’ era Bikini Kill; their ‘Practically Dead’ LP has some fantastic tunes on it:
http://www.last.fm/music/Vapid

Overnight Lows are from Mississippi and just plain great – hey look, some kind of public broadcasting body made a nice three minute documentary about them!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wHoMMRE3Xs4

There’s nothing I can possibly say about Mean Jeans that this song doesn’t say better:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dotb6Vkck68

Bracelettes are London via Tokyo and will hopefully be in the same place again to make music soon, god willing;
http://bracelettes.bandcamp.com/

The Real Numbers are very fast and fun proponents of a fake genre I made up called nerd-bounce. They’ve done a smashing 12” that I wish I had mp3s of to go with the vinyl copy. Sometimes they sound a bit like a TVPs record played at the wrong speed. Not much web presence, so I’m afraid I’ll have to link to a myspace;
http://www.myspace.com/therealnumbers

Night Birds have at least some Ergs / Psyched To Die people in them, although I’m not sure which ones. Very surfy and worryingly proficient sorta stuff, but pretty brilliant with it, and the album’s really grown on me;

I bloody love your recommendations.
I found and haven't stopped listening to Good Luck since you posted that Traveling link.
This is also right up my street. Thanks!

hooray!

yeh, the first Good Luck LP and the 2010 demo EP are utterly ace. i think they've got a new one out, but i've not heard anything from it yet

Tenement feature Amos from Chinese Telephones, who were also fucking awesome. i'm really getting into that album, and i like the way it sounds like the poppier bits of The Descendents and Superdrag at the same time

Yeah, I'm feeling that. I was always more into All when I was younger but really loved the Descendents too.

The new Good Luck record is up on Spotify if you use that. I've worn it out though because you can only listen to it 5 times on a free account. It's here anyway: http://open.spotify.com/album/0lQg3GFmVuXPfIaxjz4ATz

I shall be checking out Chinese Telephones next! I have way too many tabs up at the moment but it's all GOOD.

Ace!
I've been so stuck in my 97-2001 punk stuff. It's good to hear something new.

Unfortunately I'm out of the promoting game for now as I'm small towning temporarily. I think if I put a gig on here the locals would turn up with pitch forks.
Derby's the closest gig town to me. Joe Atom puts punk gigs on and Ben Walker is putting some stuff on again now too, mostly at the Vic or the Old Bell. If you PM me some details I'll forward it on.
