It's nice and familiar-sounding. Like bumping into an old friend you like for the first time in ages (what a twee analogy). I hope it's not the best the album has to offer though.

This will sound great on the radio...and in another universe, could be their first hit single. That said, to be honest, I'm a little underwhelmed.

For me, it doesn't have that magic spark...don't get me wrong, I like it, but, had this been the first thing I'd heard by them, I'd have thought 'yeah...like that', rathr than instantly falling head over heels in love and seeking out the back catalogue as I did the first time I did hear them...
Love is a weakness in the knees...it's dangerous on the stairs...

Yeah, you hit the nail on the head Mark. It's not like hearing Hey Lloyd,... for the first time (which I still haven't forgotten).

doesn't catch me instantly... yes, it slowly haunts your brain, but there's something which keeps it from being great. lovely tune for an album, anything but a single. but ask again tomorrow, it still preys.

The Scotsman have a pretty good interview with Tracyanne and Carey about the new album - http://www.scotsman.com/lifestyle/music ... -1-2940263

“There are a couple of pop songs on the record but I was trying to fight the obvious poppy chorus and still be melodic and catchy,” says Campbell. “We were definitely going for the laid-back thing. We needed it to be less emotional. That was how we were feeling. The mood was sombre.”
I suppose this is called growth, but I love a poppy chorus.

So do I, and I'm generally unimpressed by a band "maturing" meaning them becoming less poppy. Can understand why they do it, but I wish some bands just had the confidence to be as poppy as they liked.

So it's out there now (through legal channels too). What does everyone think? I'll post my thoughts soon.

The first listening is promising. Ok, the growth and everything, but I still feel a lot of freshness in it, and still excellent melodies.

Have just listened to the new album twice in a row and it is sounding pretty good, "do it again" being the only song I really don't like ...
I guess it is less "poppy", but I really don't mind ...

Finally got mine..
One bit (not sure which track it was, looking at tracklist, on William's Heart maybe) sounded like it was ripped from Keane though.. Anyway.. I think it's their best album so far... there's no "French Navy", but as a whole..

Turns out that come Indietracks Tracyanne will be six or seven months pregnant: http://www.heraldscotland.com/arts-ents ... t.21203985

Two of the three headliners will have pregnant singers. Keep an eye on Helen, someone.

The new album is defo a grower!
Saw em in manchester last week and though they were lovely and Carey's haircut is quite wonderful, they did seem a tad disinterested. Ah well.
