does brad like the fall?

the stuff off 'fall heads roll' i've heard is great. the band he had together for that record were pretty shit hot. of course MES went and sacked them all because one of them was wearing mid priced trainers or something.
Brad drops some phat beatz in Derby every Friday night. So I doubt it.

Any Creepers fans here?

I just found this. It's ace.

The Creepers 'best of' album which came out years ago is amazing.

I finally got round to buying the new one last month; it's great. The one between "Fall Heads Roll" and this new one is bobbins though. I think all three feature different bands (apart from Smith and his missus, obviously).

"Fall Heads Roll" is great if you like catchy guitar riffs, but I remember the guitarist in my old band found it a bit samey, and not as good as "Country On The Click" (though, to be fair, that's an absolute cracker). The new one has loads of different styles on it and it sounds quite fresh again.

This is my favorite band. Despite that, I just barely got around to getting the Peel Sessions box set. It's great.

I've got a three-disc compilation and a bunch of mp3s. What songs would you put on a Fall primer?

(I've already decided it'll start with Totally Wired. But of course.)
OK, I've got your list Andyroo, and I've just promised to make a compilation for someone who's never heard The Fall, but is aware of their place in history (he's Italian).

How did your compilation go down?
I've got the Peel Sessions set (and loads of other stuff) so I'm thinking of taking a couple of tracks from each CD to let him hear them chronologically. Still, it's a bit daunting.........

Does anyone know which Fall album features a song called Return? I have a Peel sesh version on an old tape, and it's brill, but i could never find the studio album version.

I've got 5 studio albums (Grotesque (After The Gramme), Hex Enduction Hour, This Nation's Saving Grace, Levitate and The Marshall Suite) and two compilations (the Rough Trade one and the Stewart Lee one) and they're all ace for different reasons. I WILL buy the other studio records as well. There always seems to be loads to sink your teeth into/get your head around/get excited about on Fall records.

I'm not sure it was on any albums. I think (and I might be wrong) it was on the twelve inch of Free Range. Or definitely a single around that time.

If you can't find out I'll have a look when I get home tonight, cos I've got it on some twelve inch or another.

The Free Range twleve inch is absolutely brillinant, btw. Four amazing songs.

Having said all this, I'm sure you'll find Return on one of the hundreds of compilations they have out.

Cheers... i'll have another look then.

i've not got many of their singles/EPs, but i did really like that (We Wish 4 U) A Protein Chistmas double 7" a few years back. That was ace.

EDIT: thanks! just clicking on the discog link in a mo...

they played that at the ferry a few weeks ago. if i remember correctly, it was awesome.

i've been on a massive 'fall bender' recently, today culminating in finding a vinyl copy of imperial wax solvent in the edinburgh branch of avalanche after thinking they had all sold out. it's bloody brilliant.

I was listening to the fall at the bus top yesterday morning, the one opposite the health centre, and it impressed me that 20 year old fall lyrics still manage to delight! confound! excite! inspire! make me grin openly and without embarassment!

to whit, from 'slang king':
down the road of quease
dropping off,
he stopped
at a british shop
(swoop scoop
slang king)
at a british shop
(take it down
easy)
during a lull in his attack
three little girls
with only fifty pence
had to take
had to put
the curly wurly back

Is Mark E Smith the new nostradamus?

Was having a conversation with my mate steve who's a bit of an afficianado on all things mark and he was saying that there have been quite a few scary predictions of world events in fall songs, 9/11 amongst other things.... can anyone shed some light on this for me?

He also claims that motown were going to sign the fall until Berry Gordy heard the classical with the obligatory niggers line, at least I think it's the classical, is that true or is steve pulling my leg?

Brix was on BBC breakfast the other morning in a non-talkingaboutthefall capacity. Shes a fashion buyer now and was at the London Fashion Doodah.

She's worn marginally better than Mark.E.

Anyone heard the new album yet?

I read an amusing review in a free London rag which rated it. I would post it but it doesn't exist online and I don't want to be sued by a Russian billionaire who used to be in the KGB.

Plus I can't be arsed.

i've definitely heard something similar before... i think it's in the liner notes to the reissue of Hex Enduction Hour that came out a few years back.

i don't know if Motown were defo going to sign them - they were on the Motown radar though, i think, and that line supposedly killed off all interest.
