No - you're definitely not square Rocker!

And anyway - I think you've seen the Weddoes enough times to be let off on this occasion!

Saw the Bizzaro set at Wolverhampton & Brighton over the summer - both gigs were ace!
Cheers!

How was this Iain? I sadly couldn't go to this in the end.

'twas great - a rare outing for the theme tune from Cheers, a new song about someone called Jane, a stunning rendition of Heather which bodes well for the Sea Monsters tour next year, a tatooed lady bass player - and even Jessica playing the bass on two songs! All that plus some jokes about Southampton AND all of Bizarro!

The support group were great as well - JAMC/Shoesgaze/Valentines stylee - Another lady bass player in a sailor suit too!

Just see what you missed!

I went to the Sheffield one. It was good. There were some right wallies there. Even so, I had an ace time. I loved that slow 'Heather'. Good beginning.

I feel like nobody around here really likes the Wedding Present quite as much as I do. I'm fine with that, though.

"Is anyone going to see them in Manchester on Friday?" is my question.

I used to really like them a lot but then one day around 92/93 I suddenly got really bored of them. I'm sure if I gave them a chance I'd probably enjoy them again but I probably won't go to Manchester.

Seamonsters in Portsmouth last week was fantastic!! They also did an acoustic set in the afternoon at Pie and Vinyl - Southsea's only pie shop that sells records too - or should that be record shop that sells pies too? There were 40 people crammed into the cafe to see Gedge and co perform classics such as Rotterdam, Heather, Suck, The girl from DDR etc - It was like having them in your living room. We're hoping that Pie and Vinyl will be putting on some more bands for acoustic sets soon!!!

check out pie and vinyl here: http://www.pieandvinyl.co.uk/

Well it's funny: while they are essential listening for me, at the time when I stopped listening to indie records for a few years (1993 ish - it was all to do with, ahem, electronic music for a while) I lost touch with them and I don't think I've ever even heard Watusi or Saturnalia, in spite of having a fairly comprehensive knowledge (!) of the stuff up until then. Indeed, I am rather excited about hearing Seamonsters. I've got the more recent stuff, and have listened to it a bit, but nothing like as much as I return to the 'old' (Seamonsters and earlier) stuff. I've never even listened to a Cinerama record. I should probably fill in the gaps and get these records, now I'm a grown-up with a job.

I stopped after the single a month thing. I did get the first Cinerama lp and enjoyed it at the time. When Seamonsters came out I thought it was the greatest album ever but I've hardly listened to at all in the last 20 years. I used to know the lyrics to virtually all their songs and would sing them to myself all the time. It's funny how much I used to care for them and how little I do now. It's not that I don't like them. I think I just got bored of them through excessive listening at the time and that's were they live in my mind now. But saying that I've done the same with many other bands over the years without the same effect. I should listen to Seamonsters again I think. Really loudly!

We're going to the Sheffield gig. I'm not that bothered at all about Cinerama, in fact I think Seamonsters is probably the last WP album I'm that arsed about.

You put it rather more succinctly, Silver Girl. Obviously see you there in Sheffield, too. I'm mad for it, me.

Seamonsters used to sound like the greatest thing ever on my car stereo, but now I don't have a car and it just doesn't seem to work on headphones.
I fear that doesn't answer your question!

I rarely do music critique. I just really like it - mainly in my GUTS. Sorry.

They are one of my all time favourite bands.
I've bought almost everything they've done since hearing Go Out and Get 'Em, Boy! on John Peel in 1985.
They are the one band that I've seen live more than any other over the years.

For me it's mostly the lyrics and Gedge's guitar playing that keeps me listening.

Looking forward to the Manchester gig, looks like the last time I saw them at The Ritz in Manchester was an ambulance drivers benefit on Sunday 04 February 1990 !!!

One of my faves. They are always on my i-pod. Been listening to the new Live 91 album most of the week so far.

In a nutshell, the production is all wrong.

It worked great on 'Dalliance', but, didn't really suit the rest of the album. Albini-style production and Wedding Present don't really mix for me...which is a shame as Seamonsters is crammed full of great songs...
