Best Indiepop Compilation?

Post by F. Jasmine » Tue Aug 20, 2013 14:58

Ok so I have the Rough Trade Indiepop Vol 1 and the 2009 one. I also have The Kids at the Club and Be True to Your School. Any other recommendations for good compilation CDs? I like having a portable indie disco at my fingertips wherever I go.

The Shelflife Picnic Basket compilation is my favourite, I think. It got me into a load of bands
I don't think I'd have heard of otherwise. Lovely cover art, too.

And... oh, go on then...

Hmmm, that's all quite old stuff. There's more good indiepop coming out at the moment than ever before, but they don't quite seem to make the compilations like they used to.

Oh, hang on...

Yeah.

From a reliable source (well, me) I know there will be at least one brand new indiepop compilation coming out on vinyl later this year.

it's not been made yet but everybody should attempt 'definitive' mixes and share with one another

but exactly what is indiepop anyway?

I third what do you want a Japanese to do? and second Pete's choices of Seven Summers and Shadow Factory but question his choice of Subway compilation - Take The Subway To Your Suburbs would be a much better choice for me.

My first indiepop compilation was Fun While It Lasted which is still amazing.

The Best Indiepop Compilation Of All Time Ever is the Waaah cd - not a duff song on it.

As for new compilations (what? Seven Summers isn't new?) - Carry On Rioting is fantastic and you can't go wrong with any of the indietracks compilations.

So much to love on here. So much!

And I think it's amazing that you can stick a record like Montecarlo or The Glass Arcade or Seven Summers or Hit Music Only or Moshi Moshi on and there isn't a moment when you feel nostalgic for the olden days. Just really, really happy that you ever came across all this incredible stuff that most people won't ever know about.

Really looking forward to your record, Dennis!

Ha! The Waaah CD had my band on it! Can you guess which one I was (clue: our only other song was on a Waaah! flexi)?

I did know that and I have the flexi too. Did you ever record any other songs?

Thanks for all the suggestions - now I've got to hunt them down. What Do You Want a Japanese To Do? seems to have been mentioned a lot so that's first on my list...

I'd forgotten about Shadow Factory - that's what comes from storing my records at the bottom of a cupboard buried by lots of other things (hangs head in shame). It got me through my teenage years that one.

Fun While It Lasted is another one I'll have to rummage amongst the dusty records at the back of my cupboard for. Buried treasure.

That makes me very happy! (cue inane beaming grin)

No just those two. A comeback tour and greatest hits compilation have been discussed though...

Thanks for recommendation. I've just ordered it from Amazon and will await the postman in excited anticipation.

It's the album that made me discover Kissamatic Lovebubbles, Pinkie, One Night Suzan and Southville. All the tracks on it are great, though. Have fun!

Wait. Were you in the Duglasettes? Heee! You know you've got your very own thread on here, don't you?
