What Are Some Good 2012 Indiepop Albums So Far?

Post by Avery_Island » Sun Sep 09, 2012 19:34

Hey sorry if this has been discussed before, but I lost my way a bit this year and been listening to other stuff like hip hop and electronic releases. The only indiepop albums I've heard are new albums by artists I already love (The Magnetic Fields, Jens Lekman, Allo Darlin' etc.)

I wondered what albums are worth checking out from this year so far?

A top 5 in random order:

Sea Lions - Everything You Always Wanted To Know About Sea Lions But Were Afraid To Ask
Bears - Greater Lakes
The School - Reading Too Much Into Things Like Everything
Deep Time - Deep Time
Orca Team - Restraint

None of these are new bands, but if you've not heard them...

I mostly just listen to Tigercats 'Isle Of Dogs' on repeat.

Oh and Evans The Death.

i'll second the Orca Team recommendation. continuing the HHBTM theme, i also have high hopes for the Sweater Girls and Eureka California lps i've just ordered, and the Oh-OK discography reissue is just sublime

also:

Potty Mouth - Sun Damage
Summer Girlfriends - Shockwaves
probably loads more i've forgotten

Yep, same here, although the new Jens Lekman album has finally forced me to listen to something else repeatedly and obsessively, for a while at least!

The Internet Forever album is really good, too.

I do this too. Everyone is doing this. Sometimes I listen to the new Shrag and Standard Fare on repeat for a change too.

The original poster had said he's already heard the Allo Darlin' one, though...

The new Tender Trap album is amazing. Shrag, Tigercats, Orca Team, The Great Leap Forward, Cats on Fire, Evans the Death, Azure Blue, Strawberry Whiplash have all released brilliant albums this year. Was the Sourpatch album this year too?

Oh. Yeah.

Liechtenstein and Rosie Taylor Project are great, and the This Many Boyfriends album out in about a month is tremendous.

Not sure, but I didn't mention Azure Blue because I thought that was last year. Don't suppose it matters really. Has anyone mentioned The Smittens yet?

OK, thanks for the recommendations so far.

Tender Trap I definitely need to listen to given that Talulah Gosh is one of my favourite ever bands and that Tigercats album sounds really interesting too.

tender trap, shrag, new t-buns, sourpatch (came out in january), laetitia sadier, orca team, sea lions (end of last year but I've been listening to it all thru' this, so in effect it seems like a 2012 lp)...

plus reissues from:

TRIXIE'S BIG RED MOTORBIKE
THE CHEFS
One thing that we've known from the start
Deep down inside, we're punk rockers at heart
