Los Campesinos!

Post by Richard » Fri Dec 14, 2007 15:07

Twee-est music video EVER. Flowers, rainbows, kittens and a unicorn. KILLER flowers, rainbows, kittens and unicorns though!

Also, very pleased to see the lead singer chap has sorted his haircut out.

it's like i *should* like them, but it seems a little contrived.. tinkrbell didn;t sprinkle them with fairydust or something cos all the ingredients are there butthey don;t seem to be anything more than the sum of their parts. as it were.

EXACTLY

its like, all this covering heavenly and name checking and the boy girl vocals and instruments.. but hmm. its not made me sit up and go 'wow this is amazing' or even really be very interested in wanting to hear more.

plus the annoying girl from sky larkin seems to be friends with them so they immediately lose points.

A lot of indiepop bands I can't stand, but I find Los Campesinos! rather refreshing. Mainly because they don't come across as especially twee despite the mildly contrived name-dropping of twee bands. They do come across like they want to be the pioneers of nu-twee or something.

I don't really think the songs are that indiepop really, but I've liked the last three singles. All the band seem like affable types. They were a bit disappointing live though.

.
the international twee-core underground no less.

i did get a lovely bit of promo which was like a card cut-out of the whole band holding hands.

They toured with Sky Larkin a while back I think?

I still remember first hearing 'It Started With A Mixx' yonks ago and thinking "wow this song will go on every compilation CD I make from now on". I wasn't that impressed with the recent Tweexcore song. They're a bit hit and miss but I'm looking forward to the album to see what they do with it.

Maybe it just seems weird seeing that style of music properly rehearsed, mixed, and played in time to large crowds. I think the missing fairydust would be there if they shambled a bit more. And only played in small pubs to 20 people.

Cough.

They namedrop loads from outside twee too, things such as Black Flag and cLOUDDEAD (who are an utterly genius band!!)
And by me, I mean, Flexo.

Yeah, I've seen the list of bands the lead singer loves and he seems to have exactly the same record collection as me. Admirable, I say.

i only know them from the peel session they did before they were signed, and that's DEAD good.
"you me dancing" was one of the my need-cheering-up-at-work songs for a fairly long time

and they just seem so, i don't know, finished there already...

it's strange to hear that they're disappointing live... from that session they seem like they should be good

I made Nu-Twee up yesterday. I doesn't really exist. I didn't make it up for it to exist either, but I thought with a slight resurgence in moderately 'tweepop' influenced bands in the mainstream (The Research, Los Campesinos!, The Boy Least Likely To...) that sooooomeone whose initials are N, M and E would probably label it something daft like that. Watch this space.

Ooh, I've got you angry for no reason. Sorry.

They are .m4a files. Try playing them in quicktime. There's also a plug-in for Winamp that works, but I have no idea where I got it.
