'Heeee, i'm sure Beat Happening went down great with Black Flag's fans.'

oh god, that would be amazing though. imagine seeing black flag and beat happening in the same room and going mental to both.

i don't have let's together but i've got the other two let's tapes, one of which you didn't request but here it is anyway. photos rather than scans, i'm afraid, but assuming you want the pics for itunes or similar, hopefully this should be fine.

love the selector dub narcotic 'where monsters dwell' radio show... occasionally terrifying, oftentimes hilarious and utterly utterly agreeable, more backward vocals than an entire run of 'twin peaks' and some truly great music from, amongst others, tender forever, christmas, kendl winter, dnss, chain and the gang, arrington de dionyso's malaikat dan singa (this bit is fucking amazing, as arrington describes the recording process he uses cutting single performances with a recording lathe onto plastic picnic plates and then you hear the results and it was like listening to peel back in the day, that whole 'what the heck is this I'm listening to?' reaction, I think peel would've approved), angelo spencer and joey casio... it's just a great hour's listen, if you're of a mind to be taken by the hand by calvin and led into the cavernous basement 'where monsters dwell'

lovely

it's a sort of paean to the uncool, the left out, the unhip, the apparently redundant, the much maligned, the forgotten and the sneered at... which is, as calvin points out, 95% of humanity, it's a thumb of the nose at the smug elite and that can be no bad thing

rockin'

both those clips posted above are superb... that's the first time i've heard ...Movies with backing, and it was a bit weird at first. i've been totally enthralled watching him sing that song on his own before, and miss that weird emptiness, but the backing certainly adds something else

good stuff either way

Hi there, this is my first post on anorak !
I love Beat Happening, and I've been lucky enough to find the box set for just 40$ on secondspin.com a couple of years ago. I've had it on my wish list for years, but finally it popped out !
BTW this is a great Calvin Johnson vido (and a great song):

How come this video of Beat Happening playing Teenage Caveman only has 100 views? Calvin on 12-string, what's not to like?

the same special person that posted that, also posted these of the dub narcotic sound system opening up for fugazi (check out calvin's little beanie):

most of the folks making up dnss at this point in time were also in the really rather good dead presidents who put out a great single on k ('spread butter'/'into something else'), I'm not convinced the security at the front of the stage were really necessary, however I guess calvin does bust some moves that could potentially cause a riot

So I've only seen him play once, being 21 and just discovering him last year thats all I could get, and I was star-struck. My bandmates and I came up with the idea to give him a band -shirt, so I did. Was too big for him (a medium if you wanted to know)! Loved that show. It took place at the Dead Herring in NYC. I found it neat that he was manning the merch table for the entire show, and you could just walk up to him and say hi. Damn I was awkward, being star-struck can do that. I really hope his brother liked the t-shirt, haha.

The talking was definitely the best part of his performance. And one person got to do a duet with him, the lucky duck!

Has anyone else given him gifts at shows?
