Veronica Falls

Post by northernlight » Sat Jul 16, 2011 15:00

This band seem to have quite of a lot of stuff coming up - have been mentioned quite a lot in the New Albums thread - so thought i'd start a thread for them specifically.

They have their own website:

http://veronicafalls.com/

If you sign up for mailing from that, then you can download their song 'Right Side of My Brain' for free.

As mentioned on the new albums theread, you can download their song 'Come On Over' from the Bella Union site.

Their new album is out on Slumberland in Sept, and Bella Union in October.

They will also be touring to promote that album - I think that the UK is a definite - I don't know about other countries.

Here is a photo of them that they have just tweeted with their 'new band member!

If you live in London, then this sounds worth attending:

Their gig dates on their web site are written American style! My brain just did a flip.

Well I'm really looking forward to their debut album. Each single has been strong, sensual (yes) and intriguing and the closer from the album that's been made available is also fantastic. I hope that quality can last for the whole album!
There's more than one use for every part

I really like Veronica Falls, seen them play a couple times. I was really hoping they was going to sign with fortuna pop! but oh well........ also I'm kind of in love with both the girls, can't decide which one I prefer.

i'm all about japanese-style dates -- yy-mm-dd -- so much easier to put/keep in the right order on a multi-year master list as you can just treat them as alphabetical. anyway.

really looking forward to the album -- so much so that i recently bought the 5 demos cdep despite having the three 7"s it compiles. slightly weird title given that they aren't demos at all, but it may have something to do with the fact that unlike the rest of their merch, which the band makes & sends out, the cdep comes directly from their management at wichita.

rough trade are doing a free bonus cd of five new covers (including "thorn in my side") plus "starry eyes". word is that may come out as a 10" too.

just for posterity, there's an old proto-v.f. thread here

Thanks for the info. i've seen VF a few times now. Their set at London Ladyfest last year was brilliant: they looked great, the drumming was perfect and they've got tunes. Beachy Head is a genuine classic isn't it? Not many bands have a stand-out song as good as that. Got that 5-demo CD and will probably get the album too.

Shouldn't this be in the indie-pop section though? If VF aren't indie-pop then what is and what are they? (he asked gently..)

I'm REALLY looking forward to this album - I'm seriously thinking of buying the Rough Trade version just because there's a bonus cd.

I hadn't heard a lot of their old stuff (except beachy head), but woaah....bad feeling is a pop gem! Brilliant song! Never been to any of their gigs. Are they playing in london soon?

a friend gave me a promo cd of the album last week, having upgraded to a test pressing himself ... have listened to it at least two or three times a day since. can't wait to get the lp.

really well sequenced, excellent harmonies, little bastardised madrigal part at the end of "misery", nice lyrical nod to sexy kids' "in a box in a bag" on "the box" ... super-great. objectively, "found love in a graveyard" & "beachy head" probably are the stand-outs, but they don't overpower the rest of the songs at all, as i'd feared they might.

n.b. for people who care about these things, the slumberland & bella union "bad feeling" 7"s have different b-sides.

bad feeling is astonishing isn't it? like a slightly sharper and poppier version of the dum dum girls et al stuff (NB my knowledge of musical touchstones is mainly withered and weak nowadays). and dang that production is hott. WOOF.

it's an excellent song & clearly the band & labels would disagree with me on this, but if i were to rank the songs on the album, it'd be in the lower half for sure.

yeah, it feels like veronica falls & girls names have picked up the ball & run with it.

also looking forward to more proper ornaments records, the 7" is ace.

The album is up on spotify now. Even though I've heard maybe half the record already it was really nice to listen to it as a whole. Really hyped for the lexington show now!

The Royal We -> Sexy Kids -> Veronica Falls
(Also: The Royal We -> Neverever)

Is that correct? They don't get worse over the years, do they? I really love this album already.

I usually get a feeling of anti-climax when an album is released from which I've already heard half of the tracks. But I can't stop listening to this. The old tracks sound completely new amongst the others. I love the harmonies on Misery especially.
