Casiotone FTPA - the end!!!

Post by graysonscolumn » Fri Aug 20, 2010 10:05

Owen Ashworth's final ever UK tour dates under the Casiotone moniker announced on WeGotTickets (and probably elsewhere, too) this morning. Looks like I need to book a Friday off work all of a sudden;

"Casiotone For The Painfully Alone is the musical alias of American film school drop-out Owen Ashworth. Ashworth began making music in 1997, after he realised that song-making was a far more cost-effective means of storytelling than film-making.

Characterised by the use of electronic beats and cheap keyboard sounds - here the "fi" is stubbornly "lo", and the mood is one of elegiac romanticism, with echoes of the Postal Service and Laptop.

These shows mark Casiotone For The Painfully Alone's final European tour; after 13 years Ashworth is now moving on and will be working on new projects and plans. Get yourself to one of these final shows to wave a fond farewell to one of indietronica's greatest exponents.

There are a bunch of shows that seem not to have made in onto that mailout for some reason. Here's the full last UK tour of his:

* Friday, November 5, Hey! Manchester @ The Deaf Institute, Manchester
* Tuesday, November 9, The Brudenell Social Club, Leeds
* Friday, November 12, Head Of Steam, Newcastle
* Saturday, November 13, Taylor John's House, Coventry
* Sunday, November 14, Green Mind @ The Haymakers, Cambridge
* Monday, November 15, Upset The Rhythm @ Cargo, London

Maybe there'll be some additions in there between 5 and 9 and 9 and 12?
There's more than one use for every part

He's come to Glasgow pretty consistently on his UK tours so I'm really hoping he hasn't missed it out this time. Otherwise I'm going to have to look into train tickets.

Ticket secured for the Leeds gig just now. Deep joy!

As of two minutes ago, there were still 22 left for that event, 29 for Manchester, 31 for Cambridge, 40 for Belfast, 45 for Brighton and undisclosed numbers (anywhere from zero upwards, I guess) for Newcastle, Coventry and London. I go now.

Just saw him in Edinburgh (4th time in total?) It was really awesome. I'm very glad I made it as I almost pulled out through tiredness and general financial drama, but it was fun times five.

It was awesome.
And I did.
I also missed the ending. ( Cheers East Midlands Trains:- sat around waiting for nothing at Bedford, Kettering, diverted via Corby, waited at Leicester and Beeston. You could have left London 30 minutes later!)

Leeds was splendid, save for the stage invasion a couple of songs from the end which Owen managed to eliminate fairly quickly, thankfully. Mind, three skinny indie kids (not even full of weak lager) were only ever going to offer token resistance against that bear of a man.

He did White Corolla. Nobody did the "cat dance" off of the video. Not outwardly, anyway. I did on the inside. It felt good.

Songs "officially retired on December 5th", he stated. What a shame. Lovely last chance to hear them in the flesh, though - glad I did.
