Pants Yell!

Post by tompony » Wed Oct 24, 2007 14:56

Does anybody else like these? I've just had an email from their mailing list saying that their new album is out soon, which is quite exciting because their last one, "Recent Drama", was comfortably my favourite album of last year. They came and did a few UK gigs but I missed them all due to clashes with festivals and a wedding, annoyingly.
Our new album 'Alison Statton' is finished and ready for your consumption. We spent a long time on this record and if this is the last thing we do, I'll be very pleased. I'm not sure how to describe it. There's saxophone and trumpet. Pretty voices. Crashing drums. Its a concept album of sorts.
It's out on Soft Abuse records in the second week of November, which is QUITE SOON! And there are extra treats for people who pre-order too, so I shall be doing that.

Here are some songs:
Kids Are The Same
Your Feelings Don't Show (both from Recent Drama)
Magenta and Green (from the new album)

Give them a try if you haven't heard them already. They are great.

I love Pants Yell!

'Southend-On-Sea' haunts the fuck out of me and that '83 in 03' (did I get the title wrong?) is so wry, crisp and dry

I like how understated they are but have tunes that stick around in your head like gum on the sole of your monkey boots

I like that their new lp is named after alison statton, that's cool

I think it was '83 in 03' then they re-recorded it as '83 in 05', or something.

Understated is a good description. I like their website description of "Cryptic Bedroom Pop", too. Their lyrics are great, so many odd little bits that make me smile. Especially the song 'Our Weather'.

Heh, 'Our Weather' could easily have been a Lardpony song. :)

They're lovely, aren't they? Some of the songs off Recent Drama pass me by but then they have 'Don't Take It' and 'Your Feelings Don't Show' and stuff like that and you think, woh. Really nice.

Aw, Pants Yell! are having multiple heart attacks as we speak because a friend of theirs met Alison Statton after the YMG reunion show in Paris, told her that their new album is called Alison Statton and filmed her talking to them. The video is in the first comment of their Myspace at the moment. Aw!

Hooray! The album arrived today, along with a 7" and CDR of demos and live songs because I was one of the first 60 people to order.
It's very lovely indeed! Lots of trumpets, and fantastic lyrics (as ever). Could be a late contender for album of the year!

They're a local band but seem to not have very much popularity here--not like across the pond anyway. I only heard of them when I saw them as the first of three openers for Jens Lekman at a dive bar in my neighborhood. They were great and totally charmed Lekman by performing a cover of "Tram #7 To Heaven."

They seem to have replaced their adorable drummer w/a dude :(

Aww, I only got one badge.

As far as I know they're not popular here but I'm doing my best to change that. I keep buying their albums as presents for people and then pestering them to listen :)

Yeah, I missed them too - I was in France for the start of their tour and then at a wedding for the second half. Hopefully they'll come back at some point and I won't make the same mistake!

I just got an e-mail fr. my local venue here that Pants Yell! play at a fair bit (I live in the town next to where they formed) and this intriguing tidbit jumped out:

May 24
Pants Yell! (As The Smiths!)

Is it some sort of "Stars in Their Eyes" caper? I dunno how I feel about this...
