Gold-Bears

Post by Roque » Tue Jun 01, 2010 17:47

I think they were one of the nice surprises of NYC Popfest, with a fantastic set, great stage presence, and most importantly SONGS! They have a 7" out now on Magic Marker and it's a cracking single. I know I may sound biased as I will release their next 7", but well, who cares, it is a GREAT pop band that follows the steps of The Faintest Ideas/Javelins (one of my fave bands of this decade!)

You can hear the gem of a song that is Tally on their myspace: http://www.myspace.com/thegoldbears

At Bruar Falls, NY. The song is Jezzer from their Magic Marker record

And here is a video I took at their show in Spike Hill, NY.

Jeremy Underwood was also in Plastic Mastery, another great band. Tally is probably a reference to Tallahassee as that is the location listed on the Plastic Mastery myspace page.

Cheers!

the best thing back in the plastic mastery days was jeremy had this hollow body silvertone guitar that went out of tune every other song. i have the old plastic mastery demo cassette floating around, maybe i'll upload it soon if jeremy gives me the go ahead. their ep that came out on 555 is well worth checking out if you can find a copy. (plastic mastery that is)

I ordered mine from magic marker and it was really straight forward and came really quick plus badges, if that's an incentive

I checked pebble here in the UK but they don't seem to have it

The track that is going to be on the Cloudberry single sounds great!
Shall be getting this from Pebble as soon as they come in.

As expected, the Cloudberry 7" is wonderful (well the MP3s - the 7" itself is still winging it's way here). The first three tracks carry on in the same vein as the Tally 7", but the final track Yea Tonight, is gorgeous with it's simple vocal refrain over lush jangle that ends in a soft squall of feedback. Completely unepected and completely lovely.

'jezzer', ny popfest, 2010

'something to think about', athens popfest, 2010

'tally', ny popfest, 2010

'bullet train', ny popfest, 2010

I hope I get to see gold-bears play live at some point this year

if I did, I'd dance myself into a frenzy and be kind of embarrassing and not care

I think christine from sourpatch appears in that 'xmas song' clip helping to shred some guitar toward the end
