Northern Portrait

I'm silly over this band. More than any other band for ages.

Their new ep is winging its way from that America as we speak. Anyone else heard it yet?

Wonderful promising band. Crazy and Give me two seconds to entertain me are both highlights of the year. It would be nice if they started playing live somewhere near sometime soon.

Yep. It dropped through my letter box this morning. As good as and possibly better than the first EP. Need a few more listens to decide that though!

Do you think by any chance they might have heard a few Smiths songs in their time? 'Two seconds' was one of my fave songs of 2007 without doubt.

By the way Sam, 'Some People' on the new EP is the Cliff Richard song - reminds me of Aha!!

Oh. I don't know how I feel about that.

I'm going to keep mercilessly emailing them until they come and play in Nottingham.

I was having a word with the lasses who run the Danish music club, The Pastry Club, about getting them over. They have some deal with ROSA/ Danish Rock Council who pay for the bands flights etc to London. Hopefully something will come of it!

"In An Empty Hotel" feels like their strongest so far. Great song!

Jeepers! We've got them for May 14th next year! We asked if they want us to put them in touch with other promoters. Trev knows more and he has PM'ed you.

Yeah, basically what Tom said - I am looking to hook them up with Promoters so they can do a few more dates.

It's staggeringly brilliant. I think it sounds like William It's Really Nothing though for some reason (which isn't a bad thing to sound like is it?)

You can get that here. I have been making my way through the 80 odd tracks there. The Friday Bridge cover of Eyes Without A Face is pretty good. I did like the original when I were a young un' - gulp!

I suppose The Smiths aren't playing and releasing records, so these are as close as you're going to get....

Well what's original these days eh? Those sort of comments were directed at Cats On Fire last year, Northern Portrait this and no doubt someone else next year!

Having influences is fine and dandy. Having ONE influence betrays a lack of imagination, IMHO! I'll shut up again now...
