It will be "Chapter in your life..." for me - just love it.

Have come to really appreciate the Guild League over the last few weeks (wasn't too sure when I first heard them), so there is something to keep me going after the demise of the truly wonderful Lucksmiths (Sob...Sob....!!!)

The Chapter In Your Life Entitled San Francisco

Post by islandhopper » Mon Jan 18, 2010 19:01

Is it April yet?
I forget sometimes how slowly summer passes
You disappeared into Departures
Only half a year ago
It seems like so much more, you know
I went a fortnight without so much as an email
Then a postcard scant of detail
In which you wished me all the best
From the non-specific north west

The whole song kills me, but I think probably that first verse specifically. If you want me to be even more specific (probably not)then I think "a postcard scant of detail, In which you wished me all the best" is one of the saddest lyrics I've ever heard.

i've been listening to this on repeat for the last couple of days. still sounds so amazing and perfect. wish they'd do ONE MORE gig. just for old time's sake!

tell me how good it is / to wake from a bad dream / and have someone there and I will tell you / how butterfly wings stay dry in the rain

That song is just perfect, isn't it?
I think my ipod is close to learning how to start playing it autonomously whenever I'm in the vicinity...

Do I sense a quiet "Lucksmiths moment" in a come out2nite club night soon?

Speaking of The Chapter In Your Life Entitled San Francisco, does anyone else notice the connection with The Year Of Driving Langorously?

Oh Sandy, it was indeed a year ago. We all went to that after-gig party for Marty's birthday in Lexington and Matloob introduced us to Tali. Do you remember it? I think we asked him about his flats or something and he kept telling us all these stories about Melbourne. If only they could come back for one more gig!

I really, really miss them. Just had massive emotional Lucksmiths sing-a-long on the A1 back from Norfolk.

I missed that Scala gig for the stupidest reasons, I had tickets but didn't go. I don't think I've accepted that there will never be more Lucksmiths records :-/

Usually I listen to a playlist of my favourite Lucksmiths songs, but instead I have my entire collection on shuffle - maybe I will discover some tracks that I didn't realise I liked

Well 46 of my fav Lucksmiths tracks - which probably include the most popular ones - I could list them but I don't know a quick way to do it other than typing it ! and that would take me all day.

What I find most surprising - and I find this hard to say - I didn't actually like them when I first heard them - now I would rate them as my favourite band of all time. My hubby who feels that my music taste is very strange at best piped up the other day "who is this" while I was bopping around the kitchen to "sunlight in a jar" and then said "I like them, next time you go and see them I'll come"- sorry dear your too late because they have split (she sobs again).

Surely there must be some unreleased Lucksmiths stuff they could put out - or a live recording would be good

Well, there's always that promised 7'' of their last ever recordings, that is meant to come out on Lost & Lonesome soon-ish, plus a DVD of the last ever Melbourne show to look forward to. In 2017 or whenever they get around to releasing that.

I miss them too.
