MJ Hibbett and the Validators

Post by humblebee » Tue Oct 02, 2007 11:00

I've just received a copy of Mr Hibbett's new solo album A Million Ukuleles. I'm only up to the first track so I can't tell you how good it is, but it's worth getting just for the packaging! There's a hand-coloured CD sleeve and a lovely booklet with the lyrics and chords in, and the inside is folded like a pop-up book so that the CD lifts lovingly into your hand when you open it up. Eeeeee!

It's still on AAS. Officially it'll be a digital download thing released 22 October, but there'll be about 100 copies of the actual CD available to buy. Are you on the mailing list? He's sending a mailout in mid-October saying how you can buy one.

I'm up to the tenth song now and it's all utterly ace.

I am, yep. I'll drop him an email and send him some money.

Are you coming over tonight, or being a wuss and going to the match?

Being a wuss. It's mostly cos I'm ridiculously busy with work and I'd lose half a day of tomorrow if I came over tonight, cos I'd need to stay over and wouldn't get home until tomorrow lunch. Hope it goes well anyway.

I bumped into Mark in the street earlier - he was coming from the post office where he went to post my copy of the album. Doh!

I got a hug and everything. :)

I discovered tonight that one of my most favourite singles of all time, 'autobahn' by cha cha 2000 on lissy's records, as well as comprising pat and mick from prolapse and some bagpipes also features one 'mark council' (on bass + programming) who the internet tells me is otherwise known as... mr mark hibbett!

of course if I'd looked on mark's own site I'd have learned this awe-inspiring fact much sooner than tonight

which just goes to show, aye?

Mark also used to be in a band called The Council. Who were splendid. I saw them supporting Prolapse at the Charlotte in Leicester in 1994. I remember absolutely everything about that night, for some reason. Kooky Monster also played. It was one of the best line-ups of any gig ever. Better than the first Live Aid, even.

I'm also looking forward to witnessing hibbett plus (an undisclosed number of) Validators in brum in november.

Has anyone else heard that hibbett might be doign a small re-issue of This is not a library? handy as mine was YOINKED by a rather unscrupulous sort.

He's done us a ukelele-heavy based cover of 'Little Donkey' song for the DSFAR CDR release and it's great.

This release is well exclusive.

The DSFAR CDR will only be available to those who come and PARTY HARD at the DSFAR Christmas Party.
That was the plan anyway.
A gift from us to you as a "thanks for coming to our gigs this year and I hope you had a lot of fun, because we certainly did" sort of thing.
It's supposed to be a sort of secret present.
Richard let the cat out!

Well it IS mentioned on hibbett’s website… so, don’t be too harsh on richard.

Plus I haven’t been to any DSFAR gig’s this year cos I have mostly been out of the counrty- should I be persecuted for this?

Tsk tsk!

Everyone's plotting against me.
Cuh!

All you have to do is come to the gig.
Then the CD is all yours!

It's Friday 21st December.
I suppose I should start a thread at some point.
I've put the details in the Christmas Popshows thread anyway for now.

You'd better come.
Nottingham misses you.
