Timely bump of this for any new, Popfest-inspired converts to the chickpea-obsessed folk punkers aus London und Berlin (and anyone else, of course).

May be wrong, but I think the link from page one (oh go on, here it is again - everardrecords.com/humousexual) leads to pretty much everything they've put out. The Cherryade compilation track from the Christmas before last is on there as well, I think, if you dig hard enough. Ausgezeichnet.

i know a humousexualist wrote that description himself but it's about the least accurate one i could imagine. chickpea-obsessed, that part's true, but folk punk? of the various things they've been called on flyers i think 'hippiecore' & 'punk aus fantasy island' are about the closest.

folk-punk's totally inaccurate yeh

i'd be more inclined to label em 'chickpea-obsessed lo-fi ramonescore'

which is also drastically wrong (but less so)

Aye, they're good definitions. I suspect how fitting "folk" is as a term depends on which of the multifarious definitions of that term you're coming from in the first place. Are they making music of and for the people? Yep. Does it tell a story? Frequently. Is it political? Ditto.

Not sure it matters especially either way. All that does is that it is chuffing ace.

doesn't that describe a lot of punk and indiepop though?

i think what the todally bodacious mr everard is saying is that they don' sound fupp all like Ghost Mice, This Bike Is A Pipe Bob or Defiance, Ohio.

saw my first humousexual at the weekend and lo! it was stupendous. are there plans on the horizon to release oh camberwell? because it is great and has been firmly lodged in my prefrontal cortex for months and months now.

yes, "oh camberwell" opens a 4-song 7" that has been in the pipeline forever (it's lucky they're not a real band where that kind of delay matters). kind of a long story but all being well that'll come out this year. the songs are all on the website.

there are also at least six more new ones, all of which are really good: in fact "no borders" is my favourite thing they've done & manages to be explicitly political & super-poppy at the same time.

back to folk punk: like will said, their music owes something to folk & something to punk, but the problem with saying it's 'folk punk' is that there's a specific sub-genre by that name. it's also a sub-genre that's well & truly had its day, whereas humousexual, as they enter their tenth year of playing with each other, are clearly a band of the future.

Not officially available til 5th dec, apparently. But it says on the website you can order it as soon as they've got it in. I just oredered the Homocrime retrospective, too. A FIVER!

I'm well looking forward to the new humousexual record. I bet they'll do a European tour to promote it, too.

No, there's no pre-order as such. It's just that you can buy it direct from them as soon as they arrive. Though Everard might let you send him some Paypal-ola anyway if you ask nicely. I'm surprised he hasn't chimed in already..

the reason i haven't chimed in yet is that i've said umpteen times on anorak that this record is coming soon & now it actually is don't want to jinx that. also because it's exciting when the humousexual thread gets bumped by someone who isn't me.

no preorder, not even unofficially, but i'll post on here as soon the record's ready to be sent out (mid-november, i should think). the 'release date' is simply on the website because i've sent review copies to a couple of places who care about that sort of thing.

jamie, there'll be 350 copies, you'll get one even if takes you ages to remember to order.

can't wait til this finally exists. it's excellent.

returning to the genre discussion above, i reckon chickpea-u-n-k works.
