Hi, i'm currently in another band called 'Nature Set' along with Reenie from the Long Blondes. We're releasing a single soon as part of Elefant Record's singles club, which is exciting!

Ooh, that is exciting. I did hear you were doing a single, but assumed it was with Angular.

there will be, although not just yet as we're just finishing off sorting a full set. hope there'll be some cool gig action in the none too distant future though, and we might even be able to go to lovely Spain :) (and stoke of course!) :P

Aw, Nature Set are sounding great, Claire. Not that I could get Myspace to work but those older songs you've got on Bandcamp are lovely.

The new Slow Down Tallahassee album "Curly Cuh" is out now!

Image

Order CD with immediate digital download from http://www.theespc.com

Slow Down Tallahassee are Sheffield trio Nicola Coleman, Richard Butterworth and Claire Hill. But Slow Down Tallahassee have decided to split up! Consequently, their second album is both metaphorically and literally a goodbye.

Reflecting on the inevitable loss of innocence, the hazardous emotions and the finite nature of our fragile lives “Curly Cuh” continues Slow Down Tallahassee’s knack for dark lyrical imagery wrapped in the catchiest pop. To quote the deceptively energetic song ‘Saturday’:

"I’d laugh and play all day, long before us, and the mess we made.
The all at once there’s God and Love and someone sews my eyelids shut…"

As Nicola from the band says: “Lyrically this is our death album; we couldn't have gone anywhere else after ‘Saturday’, so it makes a kind of artistic sense to us that it is released posthumously.”

Reviews:

"A second terrific album...you can be pretty certain already that this is so much better than loads that will be lauded as the new greatest thing over the next few months."
Sounds XP

"If The Beautiful Light was snotty, knowing pop at its best, then 'Curly Cuh' is its world-weary, cleverer, more downcast older sister....they've left a mighty, mighty epitaph."
A Layer Of Chips

"The juxtaposition of great pop melodies mixed with really quite twisted lyrics keep it interesting and edgy and yet somehow still beautiful. With an album where every track is as strong as the next it’s difficult to pick out favourites. ‘Curly Cuh’ is one hell of a way to bow out."
Punk Rock Ist Nicht Tot

"Once again they demonstrate their uncanny ability to wrap dark, frank lyrics in a sweet, infectious pop confection. It’s an album that deals with sticky fingered love, kitchen sink heartbreak, missed opportunities and ultimately death. As a musical epitaph I’d say it’s pretty damn perfect."
The Von Pip Musical Express

"Girl group harmonies plus burbling synths and classic hook-laden pop undercut by wantonly dark and frank lyrical content. Something about it feels more isolated and lonelier even as Claire and Nicola pledge allegiance to companionship for ever, plausibly in memorial. A fitting epitath."
Sweeping The Nation

Hey, how's that sofa doing these days? Have you still got it?

No; we freecycled it a few months ago. It gave us a couple of years of good service, but it was a bit too low for us and we worked out that it was giving us backache. We're waiting until we've decorated the front room and then we'll buy a sofa that's been designed for OAPs.

The people who came to collect it were really nice and ever so grateful - they couldn't believe we were giving it away!

Lovely 5* review on Norman Records website:
Now with bands such as Standard Fare, Allo Darlin' (& across the Atlantic Dum Dum Girls) doing the rounds, SDT make a LOT more contemporary sense. I always liked her plaintive girl-next-door voice and now these latest songs have more depth, feeling & dynamism within & the drummachine/80s keyboard juxtaposition all comes together rather brilliantly on certain tracks. They don't sound so naive, never that that was an issue. Like their first outing, 'Curly Cuh' (No doubt to distinguish the difference from a kicking kuh?) this album is full of bittersweet, catchy indie pop bombs whose hooks will be comfortably settled in your mind immediately. Given that I like this even more than their debut and the songs get better & better as it progresses, it's kind of tragic that they've chosen now to call it a day! Well, it's better to leave a neatly formed legacy of great tunes that to wear yourself away at the grinding wheel of this particularly heartless industry. You know, sod it. They can have full marks, these Yorkshire girls & boy, they deserve it!

I'm sorry to hear that they've split up too, particularly since I never got to see them play live. Oh well, at least there's a new LP to obtain. The first one is a work of pop brilliance in my opinion.

Curly Cuh felt more 'noisy' than Beautiful Light in distracting way, but now after some repeat listenings I'm really growing to like it.. the melodies are still there! Shame that it's the end..

There's something about this band... both records have taken a while to grow on me but I absolutely love them. I had The Beautiful Light for a good six months before it really clicked with me and the new one has taken some bedding-in time too.

Winter Comes Around is my favourite song off the new one at the moment. The harmonies on the chorus are so good.

I've been listening to 'Curly Cuh' all day. Is there no way at all the band can get together and just play these songs once? It's such an amazing album.

Tragic, shocking news about Claire. What a terrible loss for her family, and of such a talented person.

Claire was a higher level of glitter and awesome. The way she lit up a room and the songs and everyone. What a girl.

She was brilliant, just brilliant. A wonderful musician and a lovely person. One of those people who makes you feel happy just by being in the same room.

She was a versatile musician too, but most of us on here know her best for fronting Slow Down Tallahassee. I was absolutely crazy about that band. They brought us so much joy. I'll always remember them, and Claire, and I know I won't be the only one.
