Hate? Ohhh, that's why my B&S night thread died promptly on its arse with 14 views and no posts! I didn't realise there was such a dislike about them within Anorak.
The charts for the anorak group on lastfm for pretty much every week since anorak has been going would suggest otherwise.

I more meant the 'they're not as good as they used to be' bandwagon that everyone seems to be jumping on. It may be true, but I just find it a bit tedious after the 20th person in a row has said the same thing. Soz.

Don't know about the others, but I actually jumped on that bandwagon after Boy With The Arab Strap.
New Postal Blue single out now on Cloudberry Records.
There are still copies of our Road to Happiness CD-EP here.

I haven't jumped on the bandwagon. Maybe it's because it was the first B&S album I listened to but I still love The Life Pursuit.

Our house is up for sale and the couple who came to look at it last night have offered £10,000 below the asking price. I'm tempted to say yes because she was quite twee and had a pretty dress on and liked our Belle & Sebastian posters.

You're right. I'd better make sure she doesn't like The Life Pursuit first. :)

So how many Anoraks were on Sinister? And is the mailing list still running? I was on there between about 2003 and 2006 or so, but since I changed email accounts I haven't resubscribed. I guess I missed its halcyon days, although it was still a lot of fun when I was on there. I still have mixtapes from Sinister Christmas gift exchanges!

Wait, were you on it Alexie? I believe I received a mixtape and fanzine ("Unintentionally Lo-Fi") from you then! I received it from a lovely Miss Alex in Australia off Sinister? I spent two years trying to make a mixtape as great as that back, but failed utterly. I'm sorry.

I am Astrid in any case but I think that is fairly known on here. I was on there just under my own name.

i was! i guess i technically still am, as the mailing list is still running but posts to it are rare at the moment. it still goes through spells of being busier, but it's a lot quieter than it used to be.

Teehee that was me! Quelle coincidence! I wouldn't have a clue what I put on that mixtape now...yikes, that must have been about four years ago or more...crazy!

Hee that's great! It was so weird because we were listening (Jayen Aitch and I) to Darren Hanlon in the car, and all of a sudden "Operator... Get Me Sweden!" which was on that mixtape came on and I had no idea that it was him who sang it, and I remembered the mixtape and I got SO over excited, since we had seen him play twice in quite a short amount of time. Hee! There was something by Spoon on there too, I think "The way we get by"... it was SUCH a great mixtape, I really loved it! I have it somewhere in my CD/tape collection back in Sweden. It totally made my year that year, haha!

Do you still do your fanzine? I loved it and it had the cutest designs!

Perhaps we should start a 'where you on sinister?' thread. I was! I joined in June 2001, and it seemed like everyone had been there for ages before me at the time.

I never joined Sinister, but I joined That Certain Forum at the same time you joined Sinister, and thought the same thing about it.

sinister, i guess, predated internet forums - it was like a listserv sortof thing, i guess. there was a website, which functioned like an archive and an entry-point, but all the traffic was conducted by e-mail(and there used to be such a lot! i remember there being 70 e-mails daily on it in its heyday, and around september 2001 there was something like 200-300 a day, i think).
that gave it a flavour which was different to a forum: people posted less often, but generally posted much longer, more thought-out posts (or perhaps that's just how i remember it!)

it was lovely being on there - it made me laugh (and cry - but then i was going through a bit of an episode for much of the time i was on there!) daily. it was also kindof exhausting keeping up with it though: i remember going away for holidays for a couple of weeks without email access, and having to clear out hundreds and hundreds of emails whenever i got back.

i met some great people on there too. then, similar to you, i guess, alexie, i changed email addresses and never got around to resubscribing. at around the same time, astrid announced that she'd joined an (until then, much-maligned and intensely-rivalled) internet forum, and that was for me a signal that maybe i shoudl do that too.

i guess i'm a little surprised to hear it's still running - i think i'll sign up again. are the same people still running it, lynsey? (mmh, my memory is going: was it princess honey, or am i confusing two different people?)

yeah, it's still the same people running it! i guess there are maybe one or two emails a week these days, but i think a lot of people are still subscribed to it and probably still read the emails.

That's how I remember it, too.

But I really don't remember that. I clearly remember that when I joined (June 2001) there was an average of about 15 posts a day. I know, I calculated it. And I read each and every one of them carefully... There must have been 70-post-days but they were few and they centred around specific events, like gigs or realeses or 9/11. It is possible that around that there were 200 to 300 hundreds of emails a day, but it can't have lasted very long.

I also met loads and loads of people off it. (Johan included! And Lyns!) I used to keep a list of them, actually, but it must be awfully out-of-date by now. I do remember it was approaching one hundred at the time I gave it up, but I might be wrong.

I was on Sinister, but I only posted twice or so. But I had time to get to know Astrid and receive two mix tapes, one of them from Dimitra. I kept in touch with Astrid, writing letters actually, and she made me join That Other Forum a couple of years after - and now I'm here. THE END - this was the history of my internet life.

But anyway, I'm still on the list for some reason, but I hardly notice. 2-3 posts a week is a massive exaggeration. It's more like two a month, and they all go "Eee!!! Is this list still running!! It's been so long!! x".

And there was something so wonderful about that one or two posts of yours that I felt I just had to write back! And send you a mixtape at that too. Except I can't quite remember what it was anymore :)
