Went to buy tickets to the Cambridge Corn Ex gig this afternoon and it's already sold out (apart from some awful seats right at the back). What the hell?!

Obviously, they're already hawking tickets for £70 or so on the internet. Quite annoyed now.

I'm really excited about Stuart David's book and apparently there's going to be a Looper box set.

I wasn't even going to listen to the new album because "Another Sunny Day" is pretty much the only thing of theirs that I like post-DCW but a girl sent me the video to "Nobody's Empire" and when a cute girl tells you to watch something, you watch it. That song was enough to motivate me to check out the full album and, on first listen, I'm actually really into this. I'm quite surprised because as much as I love all their old stuff, I remain bored to tears by Write About Love and most of The Life Pursuit.

"Enter Sylvia Plath" is awful, though.

I reached a point where I was already really sick of the song and thought "It has to be almost done." There was still a full two minutes left.

The Cat With The Cream is a phenomenal song, I'm just listening to it over and over again. That string section is just glorious.

I always liked this song from a live bootleg I had. Nice to hear a studio version of it.

In 1997, I interviewed Belle And Sebastian for a Rebellious Jukebox feature for Melody Maker. Each band member selected some of their favourite songs and said a few words about their choices. As a warm up to our Belle And Sebastian disco in Brixton this Friday (May 1st), I thought it would be fun to revisit the interview and make a podcast of the band's selections.

It was so much fun to see them again last night (first time since 2004). Here's the setlist: http://www.setlist.fm/setlist/belle-and ... 838b9.html

I only wish they had played more songs from the new album because I really like it. Now I just need to find the time and the cash to see them again soon.

That looks like a great set! Still, it'll stroke their egos that you wanted 'all the songs off of the new album' : )

That is a great set. Much better than the Belfast Write About Love tourdate. They were still playing Step Into My Orifice on that tour, shudder. It's like no one told them it fucking sucks.

They were superb in Buxton last night. After the last couple of albums I thought I'd lost interest entirely, but apparently all a band needs to do is announce a gig unexpectedly close to me and release their best album in 15+ years (easy, right?) and I can be won back over.

Here's the setlist, it's impressively different from the one posted above! 'Perfect Couples' was the highlight for me, the video they played to accompany it was brilliant.

I can't get into Perfect Couples - it feels like a bit of a letdown after that astonishing 1-2-3 of Cat With The Cream, Enter Sylvia Plath and The Everlasting Muse. It's a complete Jens Lekman pastiche too. Maybe it'll sound better in the context of a gig. Will find out tonight I suppose... :)

That's odd, I don't hear any Jens Lekman in that one at all! I had it down as a Talking Heads homage. It's not my favourite song on the album but with the video projection it worked really well. Cat With The Cream was wonderful too!

I hear of Montreal in Perfect Couples, and again I really like it (rare for me to like a non-spoken word Stevie track so much!). I really liked the video, too!

Perfect Couples didn't jump out at me from the record but with the video it was brill live I thought. I saw them in Birmingham and then again in London the following night and watching the video a second time I saw a handful of people I'd completely missed the first time round.

The shows were great, the only bad bit was the proposal in London which made my skin crawl.

Perfect Couples has always been one of my favs on the album. Talking Heads is a fair comparison.
