Indietracks virgin, coming alone.

Post by shangrilala » Wed Jul 22, 2015 23:01

Hello all!

Sorry for the weepy sounding topic. I couldn't think of any other way to summarise it that was any less tragic sounding.

I think I've decided to come to this years Indietracks and since I don't know anybody as cool as me or you who likes indiepop as much I'm very likely to be travelling and attending solo. I haven't completely decided whether to do a day or the whole weekend yet but I'm not a million miles away here in the west midlands so either one isn't a big deal, it pretty much just comes down to funds.

Anybody else going alone or even in a group who would fancy meeting, or even better (and much less likely) anybody travelling from Leamington Spa or nearby, give me a nudge.

I'm spending some time reading through the posts and picking up some valuable info and tips about accomodation and such. Much appreciated. Thankssss

You probably saw, but in case you missed it read this post again. It seems to have a great offer in it that could help sort part of this out.

I went on my own in 2010 for one day, and the whole weekend in 2011. Indietracks IS really friendly, but probably not the kind of friendly where people will come up to you and invite you to join their group for the weekend. I was dead shy the first time, but say hi to people at the bar or a food queue and they'll chat back probably. And you'll no doubt bump into them multiple times and have bits of chatter/dance near them etc so that you won't feel like you're completely on your own. In 2011 I hung out a bit with a handful of people and now I know loads of lovely people there who are great to spend a few minutes or an afternoon/the whole weekend with or dance to bands and at the discos with.

Andrew, please come and say hello to me if you see me - I should be easy to spot: I'm 6 foot 2 with long red hair (well it's going a bit brown these days but I'm still a ginger!), a ginger beard with white bits and this year I'll be modelling a walking stick and fashionable black jogging bottoms due to a broken leg. There's a good chance I will be wearing glitter.

We usually have a Anorak meet up on Saturday before the bands start but we've not arranged one this year - Anorak has really dwindled recently though it seems to have picked up a little in the last couple of week :-). It's probably too late to arrange one now and I'm not sure I'll be down to the site early enough cos of my leg.

And I agree with what Leon said, most people at indietracks are dead friendly and you should have no problem finding people to chat to.

I always go on my own and camp, first time was in 2012 and by just enjoying the concerts and the merch tent I met tons of wonderful people, and now I meet most of these people every year. You won't feel alone at all

Hey,

Thanks for making this thread, was going to do something similar myself but kept putting it off.

I'm also coming along from Leamington Spa (didn't think anyone else would be!) and travelling/attending solo so would be cool to meet up - however I'm getting a silly early train from Leam as it was a) way cheaper and b) as a volunteer I need to be there for a briefing etc at 11am.

If you fancy a early start (a 7.47 early start...) then we can take the train together, but I can quite understand if you don't fancy that - would be cool to meet up for a beer sometime during the festival though, didn't know there were any other indiepop fans in Leam!

Glad to hear people say that it's super friendly and easy to meet people, that was always the impression I had of it but it's nice to hear anyways.

Hey Alex! Ha! Leamington Spa indiepop team '15. Ah so you're volunteering at the festival? Yeah, I'm still trying to make arrangements which is proving a little tricky so late. Trying to sort accomodation for two nights in the event that I make it for tomorrow and sunday but at the very least I really want to try and make Sunday (will probably need somewhere to sleep sunday night to leave monday morning). Just looking into this camp site but I don't have a tent or anything as it stands so my preference would be a cheap and cheerful B&B or something similar but not having much luck at present. I probably should have decided I was coming way before now. So you're there from tomorrow (sat)? Where are you staying if I may ask? Appreciate the offer of travelling over together! I'll know for sure by this evening if I'll be coming tomorrow or sunday and I'll let you know as soon as that is solid. An early start could be just the thing! Otherwise absolutely, let's meet up at the festival.

Ha I know the feeling, I wasn't sure if I was going to make it until very recently too!

I've dug out an old hiking tent from the attic so am camping Sat and Sun night, so afraid I'm not much use in helping find accommodation. Dance all night at the campsite disco and then nap in the indoor stages?

Fingers crossed you manage to find somewhere, and drop me an email at alexander.r.wells@gmail.com if you're gonna make it and want to arrange a pint - I'm heading over early doors Saturday and leaving Derby 9ish (I think) on Monday morning.

O and fingers crossed for the rain stopping too - not entirely sure the waterproofing on this tent is still good...

Sorry guys, I tried my best but just couldn't make it down this year. I always knew it was going to be hit or miss because I've got some family matters going on at the moment and didn't know if I'd be able to get away or not. Next year though, I'm there and nothing will stop me! Hope you all are having/have had a great time.

Hello all

Another year, another Indietracks, and another tragic loner attending on his lonesome. Things have taken an unexpected turn this end, plans have had to be changed etc, so it looks like I'm heading to the festival solo this year. Anyone in the same boat, or indeed anyone at all really, who might fancy a meet up, beer etc, do feel free to give me a shout. Drinks, fantastic pop songs and new friends doesn't sound like too bad a thing at what is already the highlight of the year. Any road, whatever happens, I'm already giddy with excitement about the whole thing (The Aislers Set!!!). See you there x

Hello! I'M GIDDY ABOUT THE AISLERS SET TOO BE MY FRIEND!

Be my friend. We can get some of the people who come on here to meet at some point on the Saturday to introduce each other. It'd be great if you could come to that. Yeah, it'll be alright!

That would be ace! I'd definitely get myself along to a meet up. Giddiness levels are now reaching barely manageable levels and it's still aaages away. Can't wait...It WILL be alright!

Totally up for an Anorak Indietracks meet-up, if we can make it there at like 12 on Saturday or Sunday. Would be lovely to put faces to new names.

Traditionally it is twelve on the Saturday at the signal box. I'd be up for that too.

Doesyrheartgoboom, it will be great. Everyone's dead friendly and you'll soon have lots of new friends. Especially with an ace name like that :-).
