Yeah! I'm in! I could write a whole album solely about the Batchelors Pasta n Sauce range, it's so versatile.

A great big thanks to all responsible for putting indietracks together. I'm new to Indietracks, new to this message board and believe it or not, new to Festivals...

At 53 and having seen most bands I've ever wanted to see (and a lot I wish I hadn't seen), I reckoned I could happily get through life without having to endure the mud, the camping, the Levellers... "yes yes yes its the summer festival, the truly detestable summer festival" (c. Edwyn Collins), but then my wife spotted on the Lovely Eggs website that Indietracks was on their up-and-coming itinerary... so after a little bit of investigation and line-up checking - the tickets were bought!

And a great decision it was too. A really enjoyable weekend I have to say - great atmosphere, great bands, great site & set-up, and TOTALLY relaxed. Even the weather was decent for the best part of it. Its just a pity you can't do / see / get round everything you want to, but then I suppose thats all part of the fun.

The Hits;

Being at the front row for the Lovely Eggs
Helen Love
The Choo Choo Trains
Bis
The Tuts
Arlo's Sonic Youth babygro
Flowers
The Fireworks (gutted I missed "Getting Nowhere Fast" cos I left before the end)
Discovering Spook School are from Edinburgh
Finding out the the Just Joans are playing in Edinburgh in 2 weeks time (Wee red bar)
The trains
The barmen (The London Lady)
The volunteers - hats off to you all

The Misses;
Camera Obscura - Under-achievers, please try harder
Pastels - lo-fi to the hilt (wot - no truck train tractor?..)
Missing out on Choo Choo trains merch
too late for Gordon Mac's Quiz (and why did he not play some songs!!)
Not doing the Norris nosing
Never got my act together for the CD swap
Camera battery ran out
The tethered birds... its just wrong

We had the good fortune to bump into Ian and his crew at the campsite, who generally showed us the ropes, gave us the gen, shared a few beers with and kinda looked after us! - thanks for all of that kind sir! (see you at the Just Joans?)

I've got only a few pics due to battery failure, I'll try and upload. No vids tho' (did anyone vid the Choo Choos???)

Thanks again, hope to be back next year!

* see loads of people i really love all in one place and all looking so happy. and dancing/hugging/being sillydrunk together <3
* lots of hotel fun/giggles with my sister and our friend who's not really into indiepop but still loves indietracks
* tuts going nuts (first night and during martha stage invasion) i bloody love the tuts <3
* wimpshake! and pete dale in the merch tent (he played hackney!!)! and buying a stripey wimpshake tshirt!
* meeting lots of people i've never met before and them all being lovely!
* just joans in the merch tent (even though i had to leave before they finished because i was too warm)
* everyone being really lovely about the stolen wine disco being cancelled and trying to sort it out <3
* dancing to like a prayer at the campsite disco with my sister. it was so awesome and nostalgic!
* getting in to the campsite disco! elliot getting in to the campsite disco with perfect timing!
* campsite discos in general
* KISSING AN OWL. i was too shy to ask last time but drunk enough this time around
* martha and martha stage invasion!
* the veggie hotdogs
* chocolate button pancakes
* talking to helen love in the merch tent. i'm sure i was really lame but i was a bit starstruck
* HELEN LOVE AND GLITTER CANNONS! that was one of the best gigs i've ever been to in my life. getting to fire a glitter cannon was just the icing on the cake! everyone was SO happy
* emma coming to look for me when into the groove came on in the marquee disco on sunday and dancing to it with abandon along with everyone else. still can't believe i got to dance to TWO of my favourite madonna songs this weekend!
* colm spinnng me around for what seemed like forever and being dizzy but happy and then trying to high-five and failing because of dizziness. that was how Main Indietracks ended for me before we went off to the campsite disco. it was fitting!

the campsite disco on sunday was something else. someone climbed a pole. someone seemed to have an endless supply of glitter in a tote bag so we got lots of glitter moments! people drinking buckfast straight outta the bottle, people being carried aroudn on chairs, SO MUCH DANCING. someone playing jaan pechan ho and us screaming the lyrics out in our hindi accents, having to wait for the cab for an hour after the disco ended and going to the other proper campsite disco. and dancing to actual disco music (and the b52s)

i'm sure there are tons of things i'm forgetting because i'm so tired and emotional and my brain's not even working properly but that's what i can remember at the moment!

indietracks is the best and i wish we could just rewind and go back to the weekend. we're so lucky to have it. thank you everyone who works so hard organizing it and making all this happen <3

also i was the most loudmouthed drunk asshole on sunday in the campsite disco. i'm sorry. i don't know why i feel the need to scream at the top of my lungs in the most off-key fashion whenever i hear martha. it's a condition.

i also just remembered a really mortifying strangest-sex-moments talk with someone i don't (didn't?) know well enough to have a talk like that with. maybe next indietracks i just won't talk :|

Thanks for that Hayley. I had misgivings about the birds too, but seeing the reasoning and where they have come from has put my mind at ease too.

Still didn't wanna pet an owl, though......

hayleygerms wrote:Quality Janitor: Woodie's Wings are a bird rescue charity that relies solely on donations to run and everyone is a volunteer. Most of the "tethered birds" are horribly neglected and mistreated pets that have been rescued and would be in a bad state or dead if ithey hadn't been rescued, so no, it's not wrong, unless you get a kick out of punching owls in the face or giving parrots horrible nicotine addictions. That's not an exaggeration, it's what actually happened to a couple of the birds they have. The owls have all been raised in captivity or rescued from people who wrongly think they make brilliant pets and wouldn't be able to cope in the wild. So the charity is actually the best place for them and the birds being at different events helps to pay for their upkeep, and the human interaction, stroking, etc helps with their recovery. The charity does a brilliant job, and it's lovely to have them at Indietracks.
I spoke to Joe whose the young lad who was working on the stall specifically about whether my small concerns about the tethered owls, and he said much as you have, and that they actually enjoy being out during the day! He said the saddest owl pet stories are probably people who buy snowy owls because of Harry Potter, then don't realise they can't care for them. Snowy Owls come from the cold and frozen north y'see and aren't used to the climate here and it can kill them. It's why when they were out by the Johnson's buffet the fans were clearly and visible turned towards the Snowy to help him stay cool and happy. It's that kind of attention to detail and knowledge that made me realise they do sterling work, that and what you've said above.

Hooray, someone's uploaded this! I did like how quite a few people still thought it was the teased Springsteen cover afterwards.

That was a lovely weekend. Glad I finally made it up there.
Massive highlights:

The Choo Choo Trains. They were perfect. Trying to convince them that being in separate countries need not be the end. Singing their songs all day(s).

McTells! And having a lovely talk with a very friendly Mark on Sunday. Hopefully they'll be coaxed out again one day...

Helen Love was a major party (as everyone knows), and now I'll never struggle to find music to dance to ever again.

So much more. I made friends with a dog, it got really into me, and then people had to empty all the flapjack crumbs and pen lids out of my bag and asked me if I'd "been in a taxi recently?"

Full on dance party madness with The Choo Choo Trains (2/3) and Frozy (2/3) on the Sunday night, from the Helen Love afterglow until 4ish. I hope it goes down in awkward rock and roll history. I didn't see it coming.
