What a lovely first post, Barto.

I'm glad you had a good time and hopefully we'll see you next year and more of us will get to meet you.
I am struck speechless by the nape of your neck.

Yes, lovely to hear about your Indietracks, Barto. I wonder if any of the people you met are on Anorak. Anyway, please keep posting here and this time next year we'll all be eeeeee-ing together.

That was my favourite Indietracks ever, congratulations to the folks who put it together, you're all kinds of awesome.

Here are a couple of the videos I took:-

Darren Hayman & Secondary Modern - I started a Joke
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-YWP6RqLPMI

The Just Joans - Come Out 2Nite
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TCDUYfN3syA

Fulhäst - Prison Pizza
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=73paqpuzNkQ

Allo Darlin' - If You Don't Pull
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OwGE-8wi-J8

I took about an hour and a half of video in total over the weekend, I've edited all down to about half an hour with about forty bands covered

Barto wrote:Hi all, I’m from Italy and this was my first Indietracks. I was considering coming since 2010 and this year I decided it was the right time. In the past, I attended some big festivals in UK and Europe, then I started with smaller ones, and realized I love them much better (especially End Of The Road Festival in Dorset)!

There were two main problems before coming: I like indiepop but didn’t know many bands in the lineup (but I love to find out new bands listening to them in their live dimension) and I was almost totally on my own (there were other Italian people I already knew, but we weren’t properly together, I met them once in a while and said hello and had some short conversation). In the end, these weren’t problems at all.

The few bands I already knew were good or very good: Darren Hayman was the best, it was my 5th time with him, including Hefner, and this one was by far the best one, this extended band has a stunning sound, really; The Just Joans were simply breathetaking; Summer Camp was mostly about vocals than sound, but it was fun and catchy; Veronica Falls sounded good too, even if the vocals were a little too weak for me; Stevie Jackson was pure sweetnes; Allo Darlin’ are better indoor in my opinion but they were good anyway and the good vibes in the audience was incredible; The Vaselines were a perfect close.

Then I found out a big load of bands I didn’t know at all or just heard a few songs. My biggest highlight were The June Brides: a full and round sound and a top quality songwriting; then, in alphabetical order, Colour Me Wednesday (great melodies and the right strength), Gold-Bears (a great combination of still excellent melodies and great energies); Robberie (their vocal harmonies were perfect); The Smittens (great in bringing a lot of different stuff in their music and creating something that doesn’t sound complicated at all); Standard Fare (one of the best performance in the festival, I was impressed especially by the singer); Tender Trap (pure class); Tigercats (a strong sound once again but this time combined to unconventional vocal melodies); T.O.Y.S. (simply irresistible).

And, as I said before, I was on my own but I never had the feeling of being alone. I met a lot of friendly people, musicians, DJ’s or from the normal audience as me. The two girls I met on Friday, personal friends of Darren Hayman; The Smittens, especially Colin, the two girls from Colour Me Wednesday; T.O.Y.S., especially Eddy and his brother and his Italian wife; the guys from Librarians Wanted club night; the two couples I met during Summer Camp, with a girl asking me if I was Greek after hearing my English accent; Jorge and Eva from Madrid Popfest who I met on the train back to London.

And the location with trains everywhere, the real cider and real ales (I tasted local ciders and ales from Kent, Somerset and Dorset but the ones from Derbyshire were better than all the above mentioned), the train and church stages, the amazing landslide.

Sorry if my English sometimes is incorrect, anyway I just wanted to contribute to this wonderful topic and meet everyone and more next year.
Barto, a pleasure to meet you going back to London on the train.
Waiting to see you next year or maybe in Madrid Popfest....

Awesome writing, Andy. I was reading it on my phone as I walked to the Shackleford Arms yesterday and ended up walking about 10 minutes past it. It sums up everything I could ever hope to say and more.

I think I missed "If you don't pull" or did I.....? I certainly remember singing and dancing to it during the weekend.

woah! thanks everybody for being so kind, I appreciate it (probably that write up could do with some editing, but what-the-heck, it's not like I'm trying to win the nobel prize for literature or nutting... 'be nice to be nominated though)

NO, don't edit it Andy, it's perfect as it is, i read it on the train to Gravesend yesterday, and then again on the train back. I don't think that will be the last time too.
and that snare drum, that drum roll
means we've got a winner

Aw, those are good pictures. The coloured lights on the signal box and carriages at night were a nice new touch, were they not?

Are they new? It was my first year.

My personal highlights were The School on the Friday - loved their energy and melodies.

On the Saturday, I missed half of Themakingof but I liked what I saw. Colour Me Wednesday, and Tigercats were outstanding in the Shed, whilst Joanna Gruesome were hellish fun in the Church. The bassist in Orca Team had some serious chops (must get some flatwounds for my Peavey).

On Sunday the standouts were Allo Darlin and The Vaselines. The latter were absolutely awesome, I've only got their Best Of, but there wasn't an ounce of filler and they played for quite a while I think.

During their set someone tapped me on the shoulder and asked who I was shooting for. I replied "Drowned In Sound", she said "And you LIKE this?". Who couldn't?

At the bottom of a bag I've just found a £5 drink or food voucher for Johnson's, valid for Indietracks 2012. I have no memory of being given this.

Nice pics, Nick.

It annoys me that you first have to log in to the 90s to read Drowned in Sound though.
