Hospitalized For Approaching Perfection fanzine

Post by jamboshoeshine » Thu Jul 22, 2010 18:27

Hello,

I'm not very good at navigating the internet so didn't realise there was a fanzine section of anorak.

Fanzines are great, aren't they? You can bury them in time capsules and trick future generations into believing that MJ Hibbett is the most popular music artist of the age. "Wow", for far-off descendents will marvel, their eyes twinkling under their enormous cone-shaped heads, "Dinosaur Planet sounds amazing, I bet it sold out Knebworth". You can't do that with the internet.

Hospitalized For Approaching Perfection issue #2 should be available for sale at indietracks from tomorrow, either from us while we're DJing as our alter-egos Come Out 2Nite on the Friday, or later on from the merch stall if we can bribe someone to sell it for us. We also have a few issues from the reprint of the first issue available.

Issue #2 features Shrag, MJ Hibbett, Allo Darlin' (again), Eddie Argos, The Just Joans, Channel 4 News' Samira Ahmed, and an Indietracks themed Sherlock Holmes fanfic. It also has some really interesting articles about 90s computer game music, falling out of love with fandom, out-of-date guide books and songwriting. As with the first issue it's a bit of a mish-mash and isn't wholly about indiepop or even music, but's written with love and the odd outbreak of wit and I hope you all like it.

If you want us to send you a copy, DM me. I haven't worked out whether to charge £1 or 1.50 for it yet, even though the cover says a quid (£1.50 for students). I might do a Radiohead and just get people to decide what they want to pay.

... and thanks for everyone who bought this at indietracks. I went in for a bit of carriage-to-carriage selling at one point. I felt like a charity mugger.

I've read it, I liked the Holmes story, but I think the Samira Ahmed piece is absolutely splendid. Properly good.

that samira ahmed piece is great, I'm presuming we must be of an age as all the references reverberated rather splendidly with me- it was good to read somebody revelling in the joys of 'pipkins' and 'bagpuss' and the like (particularly after that rapidly twonkish charlie brooker spent an easy fatuous 15 minutes taking the piss out of seventies kids tv on his increasingly drab tv panel game show recently)

and the just joans piece was just lovely

as was the cover

looking forward to number 3

The 'A-Z Guide to being in an indie band' had me giggling in the chair at the salon (except for 'B'!)

I felt kind of sad reading Sara Vali's piece. Could she not find the same connection with other bands or styles of music? I would hate to lose that passion and dedication, even if it evolves into showing it and appreciating them in different ways.

I always love reading and listening to David Just Joans. He makes me laugh, he makes me cry (I go).

Keep at your ukelele, James!

The 'Discreet Guide to the City's Pleasure's' in London sounds very intriguing. Would love to see it!

Thanks so much for putting this together for Indietracks. I looked forward to getting it and I'm glad these will be coming out regularly. :-)

Thanks for your feedback everyone. The plan (in my brain) was always to mix specifically indiepop stuff with more general stuff, I hope that comes across and that we got the balance right. I've already made some plans for issue 3 in my brain.

Oh, and if there's anyone out there who want any copies of issue 2, DM me. I may be doing something of a reprint.
