Great stuff, I've just listened to the tracks on the RPM site and they sound really good! Looking forward to hearing the full thing.

Thanks. Glad you liked those ones. There are songs we preferred to those, but they need a little extra mixing or arranging or a better vocal take before we unleash them on the public.

Anyway, the whole thing's been fun and it was good to kick our arses into gear by having a deadline. I've not had much chance to listen to the FAWM stuff (except some of the songs from the first week that you and Chris posted), so I will do when I get a moment.

Howcome when I need to sing in tune, with only two days left, I suddenly get a croaky voice? I cringe at the vocals I've inflicted on the poor people at RPM.
Just be nice to me.

There's a FAWM wrap up party in London this Sunday
http://wiki.morti.org.uk/londonfawm2008
I've going to try to remember what I wrote so I can go along and bang out my five hits.

Anyone up for FAWM 2009? The official site hasn't "gone live" yet for some reason (I think it's being completely re-written for this year) so there's not as much pre-February chat this time around. I'm really looking forward to some serious enforced creativity!

I don't think I'm going to have time for it this year, unfortunately. We're doing "My Exciting Life" at the Leicester Comedy Festival, I've got a ROCK OPERA about Dinosaurs to finish writing, and we're just starting up the manafacturing process for the next album!

If anybody's thinking of doing it tho, I would HIGHLY recommend, last year it was GRATE!

I'm considering some kind of concept album this year. Also I have (unwisely?) already agreed to do a solo gig in March and play my FAWM songs. You know, the ones I haven't written yet. February is rapidly becoming my favourite month!

The site is live now!

Anyone going to join me in this year's crazy songwriting endeavour?

I almost wrote a song today about Facebook Scramble, but I couldn't think of any words that rhymed with 'retirements'.

Is there a thread for this already? If not, post yours up here, I'd like a listen!

It's here:

But most of that thread relates to last year - I don't think anyone else from here attempted it this year, unfortunately.

There we are. I'd recommend these:

http://fawm.org/fawmers/caterwauler/ - fuzzy french shoegaze pop
http://fawm.org/fawmers/easterisland/ - badly recorded but charming indie rock (reminds me of UNPOC!)
http://fawm.org/fawmers/benpetie/ - sort of elliott smith / modest mouse type stuff with good harmonies
http://fawm.org/fawmers/tobermory/ - various genre pastiches from the chap from balor knights
http://fawm.org/fawmers/tomski/ - cute ukulele pop

and some good individual songs:

My album is now finished and up on my website for free download, with ARTWORK and everything!

Get it here, and then come and watch me struggle to play the songs at Vines, Derby on Monday because I haven't learned any of the lyrics yet.

I might give it a go now that i've retrieved my 4-track from its dusty hiding-place. Do i actually have to sign up to anything, or can i just write 10-12 tracks across february?

14 tracks is the target!

If you sign up then you can post your songs on the website and get feedback / encouragement, which I find makes the whole thing incredibly fun.

Hmmmmmmm, maybe i'll give it a go then. Are there any real rules behind it apart from 'write 14 songs in 28 days'?

Not really. It's more of a motivational thing really, more rules would just put people off.

They have weekly challenges and stuff like that but it's all entirely optional.

Cheers... i'm just looking over it all now.

Er, i think my stuff's going to be quite lo-fi, if i actually manage to do it. As things are, i've no idea how i'd transfer anything from my cassette 4-track to the internet. Magic?

I can see me starting off all enthusiastic, then running out of steam several days in and jibbing it all off. So i'll have to make sure i actually do it.
