Art show in Nottingham

Post by mimpkin » Mon Feb 16, 2009 22:08

I don’t know if anyone might be interested in coming, but my friend and I are having an art show at the Hand and Heart Gallery in Nottingham. I make sculpture and drawings and she makes big paintings.

It opens on Saturday 21st Feb with drinks from 3-7pm, all welcome, and it goes on till 6th March, 12-4pm weekdays and 12-6pm weekends.

I'm looking forward to it now even though its a little scary. Eeeee!

I'll try and get along to this. I know nothing about art at all, but seeing as there's a pub downstairs that hardly seems to matter.

popfest isn't this weekend? oh man, we were looking forward to having the flat to ourselves, if you know what I mean

I assumed you'd want to go this weekend because of the mention of:

Yay!! It will lovely to see you lot! You could park round where we parked the day after the Alldayer. The gallery is about a 5 min walk away but I’ll email you a map/ directions etc.

Layer of Chips and Linus thank you for thinking about coming along. Never mind that you'll not actually be there as all forms of moral support are most welcome and appreciated.

Well, we got most of the show put up today, and its looking good. I’m knackered but its all very exciting. Saturday will be fun!

I was up there last night when they were finishing setting it up. Definitely worth a look in if you're in town this afternoon ... Or any other afternoon I guess.

This went really well on Saturday. The Mimpkin should be proud.

If anyone gets a chance to go and have a look while this is still open, you should get over and have a look. You never know it may be the last chance ever to see the fabulous Shaman Boat (Take Me Up), before it gets bought by the Tate.

I spent the afternoon working behind the bar and unfortunately got a bit pissed. I apologise to anyone who I had a conversation with later on and didn't make much sense.

It is rather fabulous, though I was worried that Ralph would start trying to make sandcastles in it!

Well done Mimpkin! We don't normally do art galleries but we had a lovely time.

You seemed okay to me by the time we left. The pub was nice too - was it Rock Bitter we were drinking? It was lovely whatever it was.

It was later I overdid it a little. Yes - Rock Bitter, they do a slightly stronger one called Rock EPA (Extra Pale Ale), that's maybe a little nicer even. The problem was the landlady put a strong, but not strong tasting beer on later that was highly dangerous - and I had a tab, which made it worse.

No one trod in the sand at all - I was amazed.

Edit: And it was good to see you ... I hope Ralph didn't get too bored.

Thanks everyone for coming along. It was such a big success and we had a very special day. Everyone really engaged with the work and that made me so happy. I'm not sure boat will be bought by the Tate but it is my best piece so far. I told its story over and over on Saturday but I realised there is more in it than just that story. Thats one of the things I like about art, it sometimes reveals different meanings if you take time to process it. Maybe that makes no sense . . .

And no-one stood in the sand - I honestly thought it would be all over the gallery floor by the end of the day!
Tonieee, I hope Ralph liked his beeswax, he seemed to. Ahh!

He did very much. He was very concerned about the boot he made getting crushed in the bag on the way home. Thank you for letting him have it.

Just in case Mimpkin forgets to say so - it's your last chance to see this great exhibition. Saturday is the last day. It's definitely worth a visit ... and the pub downstairs has great beer too.
