02/02 Smokers Die Younger/Dýrðin/Champion Kickboxer - London

Lost Music Presents - The Soup Kitchen (with bands!)

Image

Saturday February 2nd @ The Grosvenor in Brixton (just around the corner from Jamm).

It will be £5 on the door. And we'll be starting at 8pm.

After the bands (from 11pm to 2am) we will be running one of our Soup Kitchen nights and it will be free entry for any late comers who wanna do some Saturday night dancing - We will have guest DJs for this - Exeter Goes Pop!

Smokers Die Younger
Coming down from Sheffield for a rare London show we have Smokers Die Younger who have been described as an astounding, soul-embracing band you dreamed you were discovering throughout your teenage years.

"chaotic, messy, exciting, amateurish and extremely endearing" - Rough Trade Shops

Dýrðin
Coming over all the way from Iceland for a whirlwind visit. This is their only London show of their brief stay. There are only 300,000 people who live in Iceland, 80% believe in elves. Dýrðin brings the mythologies of elves, comic book heroes and Star Trek to life with their edgy pop.

Champion Kickboxer
Again from Sheffield we have another great little band, this being Champion Kickboxer. Their recent EP - 'Candle Power' has been a firm favourite these past few months. A feast of beautifully organic pop music a little like the Super Furry Animals with great vocal harmonies and a melancholic air that drifts through all the songs. A must see band.

The Bridport Dagger
"The Bridport Dagger are a bass-less 3-piece who craft darkly hypnotic songs that conjure up images of the past without ever falling into the realms of nostalgia" so says Maps magazine.

Whoah!! I am there too! I agree, Drydin are super fantastic!!
I slice the surface here beside you/Lungs filled liquid yell I love you/Sound moves further underwater
Deep and dark my submarine bells groan in greens and grey/Mine would chime a thousand times/To make you feel okay..

Oooooh, it seems I may have been a little premature on this. They're only 90% confirmed it seems. Crossed wires and that. Ooops. Will know for sure soon.

Utter bargain! Smokers and Kickboxer on the same bill for a few quid....jeez. Saw Smokers at thee SPC cavalcade last night and they were as intense and wonderful as ever. Amy sang with them and they did a heart stopping version of Two Cigarettes. Brilliant, brilliant band. And what's to say about Kickboxer? Spellbinding and enchanting......what a great night in prospect.

I am really looking forward to this one. It's an ace line up in a great little venue. I have been playing Champion Kickboxer's latest EP a lot lately. It's brilliant.

Just about a week to go. 4 cracking bands in a great venue for a fiver. What more do people want? DJs? Oh yeah, got them too. They're coming up from the wild west (Exeter Goes Pop!) - the dancing starts at 11pm and it's free for those who saw the bands and any late comers!

There are still some tickets left at We Got Tickets (hint hint) should anyone want slightly cheaper entrance to the gig!

If you people have any special requests for us DJs of The Exeter Goes Pop! Drive-In Disco to play, please give a shout. We won't promise anything.

Looking forward to it too, of course!
