Pop-o-matic! with MOI +1 more Sheffield 19/08

Post by Dan Pop-o-matic » Sat Jul 23, 2011 13:40

We're back! And we have a new home! And we're putting bands on again! Yay!

It's at Sheffield Redhouse on Friday 19th August, starts at 21:00 and goes on until really sodding late.

This one has:

Moustache of Insanity
...
Moustache of Insanity is Nik and Bill. They play messy pop songs about the important things in life - cheese, mix tapes, freckles, ninjas, horror movies, love, Chuck Norris and sending postcards to strangers. Bill is on singing, electric guitar, ipod and moustache duties, while Nik sings and attempts to play the keyboard.

+1 more tbc

Then the Pop-o-matic djs will play the usual awesome pop stuff like:

Nicola Roberts - Blondie - The Human League - The Shangri-Las -Allo Darlin - The Ting Tings - Althia & Donna - Adam & The Ants - The Buzzcocks - Diana Ross - Alphabeat - The Bangles - Talking Heads - David Bowie - La Casa Azul - Beyonce - Martha & The Vandellas - Soft Cell - Jackson 5 - The Kinks - The School - Queen - Anita Ward - The Thompson Twins - The Jam - Ladyhawke - Pulp - Neon Neon - Bow Wow Wow - The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart - The Crystals - REM - Heaven 17 - Dolly Rockers - Those Dancing Days - Altered Images - Donna Summer - Prince - Dusty Springfield - The Cure - Aneka - Depeche Mode - Sparks - Belle & Sebastian - Sugababes - Jamelia - Oreska Band - Saint Etienne - M.I.A - ABC - Orange Juice - Men Without Hats - The Smittens - XTC - Peaches - Bronski Beat - ABBA - Little Boots - Squeeze - Devo - Phenomenal Handclap Band - Le Tigre - Daphne & Celeste - Shampoo - Avril Lavigne - Fantastic Plastic Machine - Annie - S Club 7 - Passion Pit - Bratmobile - The Saturdays - The Blow - JLS - Lady Sovereign - Elastica - Best Friends Forever - Kelly Rowland - Tinchy Stryder

It'll be £2 on the door.

That +1 more I mentioned turns out to be booze-sodden party reprobates Heroes of the Mexican Independence Movement. They were great in the Church at Indietracks and should be great at this as well.

The poster now looks like this btw:

We now have a guest dj in the shape of Ms Sam Catbear. This is in lieu of Roo, who has managed to organise an event which clashes with her own clubnight.

I can see that, in your excitement, you've hit the enter key a little early and omitted some key details. I'll fill everyone else in:
- There were literally no other viable/practical dates available for said event.
- Said event is, of course, going to be fucking excellent, and anyone who knows Roo (which I assume is the target audience for your comment) should speak to her and find out about it.

Cheers.

In complete fairness this is the Pop-o-matic event thread, not the things-that-aren't-Pop-o-matic thread. It's hardly up to Dan to promote an event that clashes with his own.

Thanks for coming on here and stirring up more bad feeling. I can only repeat what Alex said basically. Whatever the reason for putting on an event that clashes with mine, I have right to view it as competition which must be CRUSHED, and to promote my own clubnight accordingly.

Seriously though, good luck with it. I hope you all raise a lot of money for people who can claim compensation from the government anyway.

It was originally planned for Saturday but just before announcing it, after it had all been organised, it turned out it had to be changed to Friday. A lot of people were already involved and a lot of them couldn't do the Friday and sadly it was very difficult to just cancel it. It was a very difficult decision to make and I had hoped that people would understand what a difficult position fate put me in. It was never intended as competition and I have said that when the quiz finishes at 10:30 I will encourage people to go across to Pop-O-Matic if there are people there who want to. I think all the people originally going to Pop-O-Matic will still go as they're very different target audiences. I'm just really sad that instead of talking to me about it in person, I've had comments put on the internet about me instead :( I don't think anyone was trying to stir up bad feeling, I think it just seemed a bit unfair after I've tried really hard to get in touch and explain that I've been talked about on the internet instead, so they wanted to point out my position as well. No one would expect you to promote it, I'm not sure where that has come from, but I also don't think anyone expected there to be such bad feeling about what was really me being stuck between a rock and a hard place. That's all.

Could not agree with this more, which is why I thought it seemed odd to raise it at all. But if it is going to be raised (by Dan), let's not let it be exclusively in order to slag off one person who's done nothing wrong here.

I didn't raise it to slag anyone off. I was telling people why we were having a guest dj. Some people would want to know.

I honestly cannot see how what I said could be seen as a personal attack on Roo, and I'm usually all apologetic and wracked with guilt.

So in the interest of bridge building, how about this: go to the quiz in support of PIAS, then come to Pop-o-matic afterwards. I'll watch HotMIM on my own, just get to the Redhouse in time for Moustache of Insanity yeah?

Hi all......Paul from HotMIM here....look, if it makes life easier we'll be more than happy to visit the other event and play an acoustic set/take part in the quiz/play in the middle of the road between the venues???....however,what would be a complete waste of our time would be if we travel from Hull and then play to nobody....that would be tragic.....there is nothing worse than seeing(or not seeing) a group of 30 something year old men playing to an empty room....we still have our dignity(yeah,right!!).....anyway....we love Sheffield....we'd be happy to pop over just for a couple of pints and a good night out.

Rough stage times for tomorrow:

Doors: 21:00
HotMIM: 22:20
Moustache: 23:20
General pop shenanigoats until 03:00

I'm putting bands on 20 mins later than I otherwise would have in case some people come over after the charity quiz thingy down the road.

See you there!
