Exeter (and Devon)

In case someone cares.

Los Campesinos! is playing at The Cavern tonight. It's free if you get there before nine.

It was nice last night too. We got in at two to nine, so didn't have to pay anything, but had to wait until quarter past ten, while feeling like I was in my mid-40s. I mean, I came straight from work, wearing a shirt as one does when going to work, and all these (young) kids were wearing their halloween costumes. But the band was great and I didn't regret going at all. If you get a chance of seeing them soon, you should go.

Speaking of Exeter: on Tuesday, which is when your calendar says "6 November", Pony Up! will play the same venue. I won't be there, but they're quite a nice band, if you're into AGSFB/Tiger Trap kind of Northern American indiepop.

Just to remind to DimitraDaisy that there is an Exeter (and Devon) thread on here.

I am coming to see you this year, I promise. I want to go to the seaside and play with the fishes.

Oh look, there is indeed a thread about Exeter. And, who would have guessed it, it's been started by my *husband* at that too.

Aw thank you Marianthi. I had just found it myself, but you seem to be a little faster with posting. Must be all the practise.

Yeah, yeah, yeah... they all say that, but no one ever comes... ;)

Can you really shake your head and roll your eyes at the same time? That's a GREAT TALENT!

Anyway, Dimitra, I am merely repeating what it says on Exeter City Council's web site.

There is an indiepop scene in Devon, after all! It's just very select...if not tiny.

Hello, Phil!

It's funny that you posted on this thread today, because today I was discovered on soulseek by a fellow Devoner and indiepopper. Hard to believe, but true. And ever so exciting.

Hello, Dimitra!

I really must make it over to Exeter Goes Pop one of these days...But not the next one, sadly ....

Anyway, nice to be here...and the sun is shining in Devon today, kindly reminding me of why I moved here in the first place :-)

That's sad indeed! It'll be our anniversary after all.
So when will that 'next one' be?
The 14th of this month! From 8pm to 11pm. At The Phoenix, in Exeter.
How much do I have to pay to get in
Nothing!

(Phil, you should bring your guitar and play some songs next time you come!)

Exeter, Exeter, better than eating Tex-Mex-eter! Although that's not much of a compliment. But it's the best city in the world. There used to be a fantastic indie-pop scene there from about '87 - '92 or so. Before Timepiece moved to a bigger place and decided to suck anything as long as the money was right. It still seems to be such a frustratingly apathetic place at times though.

it's still as apathetic as it ever was. i think i've noticed it more so since living in manchester for a bit and then visiting toronto, which was fantastic. still, exeter has its sleepy charms and good music, hidden away though it might be. and we had snow this week. and the wedding present visiting again soon! they were ace last time at the cavern, though this time it's the hub.

This won't be much use if you're reading this too much later (posting this at 1pm on Friday April 18th). But look at the sea at Dawlish Warren! Look at it! Go on! That's where I'd like to be right now. Walking in the dunes with a big bag of salty and vinegary chips.

My mum got stuck there on a train on flooded tracks once for an hour or two, she said it was great. I always make sure I'm awake for that bit of the train journey myself. It's fantastic
