Woooh, ghosts in Outwood - http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/bradford/7029051.stm I used to go to school round there so it's doubly exciting.

How is Leeds these days? Are there any decent indie nights which go on.
And by me, I mean, Flexo.

I'm in York. Any indie nights in Leeds that are good? Not much going on in York, sadly.

I'm in Leeds.

There are loads of indiepop nights in Leeds - Let's Be Friends, With Whom To Dance, Tiny Cat, The Comfort Zone (and Don't The Kids Just Love It has only just called time on its activities, sadly). Plus plenty of indiepop gigs, and clubs where some indiepop is played (Strangeways, Suck My Left One, Idioteque, Random Rules, Ice Cream). Indiepop and affiliated bands - The Seven Inches, The Manhattan Love Suicides, Napoleon IIIrd, The Lodger, The Chiara L's, me a bit (Penny Broadhurst), The Rosie Taylor Project, Robin Osterley, Downdime, The French Defence and lots more. Plus in Bradford you've got ultCult, Le Tournoi etc. I put on Pennfest a few weeks ago in Leeds and London, which is going to be an annual indiepop minifestival, plus The Art Of Kissing did an indiepop alldayer at the Faversham last weekend. There's been a big resurgence over the last year or so, possibly in reaction to the rise and rise of horrible laddy so-called indie guitar bands.

Yes, lots going on in Leeds. There's usually more on in term time, but there's a few things happening this month at least. I see there's an indietracks warm-up on the Friday before at the Cardigan. Should be a good 'un!

Brainlove records Festival tonight featuring:

A SUNNY DAY IN GLASGOW - http://www.myspace.com/sunnydayinglasgow" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Highly rated by pitchfork et al, we're very pleased indeed to be putting their first show ever in Leeds on, on only their 2nd UK tour, travelling all the way from philadelphia. Shoegazey dreampop in the vein of Asobi Seksu and My Bloody Valentine.

THE MANHATTAN LOVE SUICIDES - http://www.myspace.com/themls" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

A week after playing the amazing Indie Tracks festival, we're happy to be putting them on at long last, after many an exciting show in leeds. Um, again think in vein of My Bloody Valentine, but verging more towards JAMC type stuff.

AWASH WITH ANTLER - http://www.myspace.com/awashwithantler" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Again, a band we've been wanting to put on for a while. They all write songs, sing & swap between a multitude of instruments: harmonium, piano, violin, phono-cello, viola, electric guitar, bass, stompbox, synth pads, glockenspiel, bodrum, bongos, samba drums, teapots, pots & pans.

THE MIDDLE ONES - http://www.myspace.com/themiddleones" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Another band we'll be stealing from Indie Tracks the week before. So impressed we were with their performance and lovely songs at the last Let's Be Friends, we had to ask them to play. Think Diane Cluck or Jeffrey Lewis. Yay

JAM ON BREAD - http://www.myspace.com/jamonbreadyay" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

After playing his first performance at Jingle All The Dayer for us last year, we're very pleased to have him back for his third time at a Deku Tree event. Lo-fi pop songs about manatees, twee swedish record labels and isopods. For fans of Daniel Johnston and Kimya Dawson

HOE CAKES -

Sam from Planet Earth and Sir Yes Sir's new project. Expect a performance in high spirits as it's his birthday!

£4.00 in!
Doors at six, with live bands until 11. Afterwards, DEKU TREE and LETS BE FRIENDS DJs playing music - talking heads, sonic youth, times new viking, the clean, etc. etc.

The first night of Brainlove Records first Leeds festival. Missed The Middle Ones at Indietracks, so looking forward to seeing them tonight.

Show was fun last night! I'm not sure how I felt about the venue. I just hate seeing pretty buildings turned into chain bars. But, once upstairs, it was fine and the sound good.

Awash with Antler were really cute and eclectic. Manhattan Love Suicides with their nice JAMC posturing. And Sunny Day in Glasgow sounded so great live, different from the album but really good.

Yes, it was a good show - caught the last four acts. Shame MLS's played a short set, but it did ROCK!

Hello Leeds! Is anyone there?

On Thursday this week I'm playing a solo set at the Packhorse with Cowtown, The Lovely Eggs and Trapdoor Minotaur. My first appearance in Leeds for chuffing ages, like five years or something!

So yeah - pop along if you fancy, like.

Heh. Last time I played in Leeds, it was that time you put me on with St Thomas and David Thomas Broughton. I'm sure that was before I moved up north, so I reckon it must be about five years.

Does anybody need a house to rent? I'm moving home and leaving my lovely cottage, with my housemate in it.

Good luck with that Lauren, where are you going?

If any of you Leeds types is interested, Compfest is happening this Saturday at the Packhorse (the one near the uni, not the one in Briggate, but you probably knew that already)

It features more bands than you might expect to see on an evening only bill.

Here's a message from the organiser:

***

Hey,

this is on Saturday at the Packhorse, starting at 8pm. Get down early to see everyone!

It's £3 in and you get a double cd included in the price.

The following bands are on the album and those marked with a * will be playing.

≧▽≦
Amyas Varcoe *
Angry Sandwich
Bear Driver
Beth Atkinson
The Broken Chairs
The Chemistry Experiment *
The Contortionist and The Wandering Boy Poets *
David Broad
Downdime
Eoin Shea
Ewan D. Rodgers *
Glaciers *
Ian Cockburn *
Ian Williams *
John Perry's Me Time
Max Broady *
The Medusa Snare
The New Nathan Detroits
Nir Graham *
Nir (vana)
Olfar *
The Rocky Nest *
Stephen Clatworthy
Tillykke Kattemor
The Wednesday Club *
Will Edmonds *

Attention Leeds people!

Pockets Filled With Matches are gonna be rocking the Primrose tomorrow night!

No idea what time we'll be on or anything, but come!
I may be ugly and hate-filled but... wait, what was the third thing you said?

Pockets Filled With Matches are no more, but we still have copies of our e.p. 'If Time Heals You' for sale, if you'd like one

Just a heads up about a good night tomorrow in Leeds. Stolen from the Leeds Music Fourm.

Tiger Trap returns with a new addition to the team and a brand spanking new home. We're now housed at the wonderful Nation of Shopkeepers (as if i don't spend enough time there already) and our night is totally FREE from now on. This is the first date over three months, for which we will be offering the very best in indie/pop/punk/lofi/hip/diy/alternative/scuzzy/post/proto/new and old EVERYTHING.

Cakes as usual: also the following bands:

BARR, Pavement, GUIDED BY VOICES, Neutral Milk Hotel, Hefner, Ballboy, Orange Juice, The Wedding Present, Belly, Talking Heads, Wire, Fugazi, The Blood Brothers, John Maus, Q And Not U, Built to Spill, Weezer, No Kids, The Beach Boys, Islands, Taking Back Sunday, The Mae Shi, Chia Pet, Electrelane, Al Green, Why?, Xiu Xiu, Black Eyes, The Vaselines, Frightened Rabbit, Les Favy Fav, At The Drive-In, The Unicorns, Pony Up!, Nas, Of Montreal, No Age, The Blow, The Mountain Goats, Funeral For A Friend, The National, Mika Miko, The Organ, Bruce Springsteen, Dananananakroyd, The Replacements, Owls, Tullycraft, Million Dead, The Magnetic Fields, Archers Of Loaf, OMD, Sebadoh, Casiotone For The Painfully Alone, LILY ALLEN, Brand New, Swell Maps, Daniel Johnston, MF Doom, Jonathan Richman, The Weakerthans, The xx, Sam Cooke, The Four Tops, Tom Petty, The Aislers Set. Flying Nun, K Records, Postcard Records and Dischord. And Will Smith/Young.

Suggestions more than welcome.

Tiger trap has been going for one whole year now and this date in September will be our first birthday! A lot has changed in the past year but the spirit and heart of the night most certainly has not. We hope you're as excited as we are.

if anyone's going to slow club, you should definitely come to this afterwards. think of it as an afterparty of sorts - joel from support rosie taylor is one of our djs. and its FREE.

Lots of love, Nestor, Adam, Joel, Richard and Lauren xx
