I wish more people would put indiepop gigs on in Cambridge. I've done a few, and plenty of people go, so it's not a big risk.

Agree on the 1st three, but can't get into Micropenis musically. Nice people, though. MFU's Les Adventures Sous La Mer are worth checking out. I dig C Joynes more, though he's from Histon.

Putting an appeal out there for people other than me to put indiepop gigs on in Cambridge. People always turn out to them, but I want to concentrate on weirder stuff. If you book them I will come.

I may be the only Cambridge person on this board, but in case I'm not, there are a bunch of gigs coming up in CB that might be of interest:
  • Slow Club - 16th Jul @ Portland Arms
  • Allo Darlin' + Model Village + The Centimes - 24th Jul @ Portland Arms
  • Jeffrey Lewis & The Jrams - 13th Aug @ Portland Arms
  • Stanley Brinks & The Wave Pictures + Freschard + Mammoth Penguins - 15th Aug @ Portland Arms
  • Mick Turner (Dirty Three) + Fuzzy Lights - 17th Aug @ Portland Arms
  • The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart - 19th Aug @ Portland Arms
  • Space-Time Festival - 30th Aug @ Wysing Arts Centre
  • Ringo Deathstarr - 1st Sep @ Portland Arms
  • Sleaford Mods - 11th Sep @ Portland Arms
  • Honeyblood - 24th Sep @ Portland Arms
  • Eagulls - 7th Oct @ Portland Arms
  • Model Village - 10th Oct @ Portland Arms
  • Real Estate - 20th Oct @ Junction 2
Not too bad.

Isn't the Poartland Arms really tiny? Or am I thinking of some other venue?
I am struck speechless by the nape of your neck.

It's a small room from what I can remember.

The gig room used to only hold about 80, but they extended it a couple of years ago to a 200 capacity venue.

Ah, that explains it. I was wondering how some of thos ebands would fit in that room. Even 80 sounds like a push from memory.

Thank you. I had had the exact same internal debate.

I wish I could attend these gigs but public transport is an issue for me...

Indeed! So Mr Carney, are there any Cambridgeshire bands that I should check out?

I would recommend the following:

indiepop
Model Village - modelvillage.bandcamp.com *
The Centimes - thecentimes.bandcamp.com
Mammoth Penguins - https://soundcloud.com/mammoth-penguins

not indiepop
Fuzzy Lights - fuzzylights.bandcamp.com *
Violet Woods - violetwoods.bandcamp.com
Biscuits For Bears - biscuitsforbears.bandcamp.com
Pete Um - peteum.bandcamp.com
C Joynes - cjoynes.bandcamp.com
Holden Girls - holdengirls.bandcamp.com
Molasses - molassesuk.bandcamp.com
Forest - https://soundcloud.com/forestuk

* disclaimer - these bands feature me, so there is some bias there

Relevant Record Cafe tweets:

https://twitter.com/Relevant_Cambs/stat ... 0097086464
We can't wait to welcome you all to Relevant, we will be open from 9am on Saturday 22nd, with live music from 6pm
and

https://twitter.com/Relevant_Cambs/stat ... 9057718272
Live music will be coming from amazing local bands Mouth, Lunacre, Broadway Danny Rose, Seeds & Bones and Tape Runs Out! It's gonna be good!
I haven't heard of these bands apart from the Tape Runs Out (and their constant line-up changes). Very promising!

Don't know who the rest are (though the names are familiar) but Seeds & Bones is Xav & Rachel from Fuzzy Lights backing Rachel's sister. It's sort of fuzzy, woozy, sad electronic tunes.
