Oh, of course! Travelodge! The most POP! place to stay and there's one fairly central in Bristol. Just booked that one. :)

Really looking forward to this.

This is not going to sell out, is it? For on the ticket site is says: It is too late to book for this event on-line. Mind you, it says that for all NYE events in Bristol, so I'm not very worried, but still.

I have no idea on whether it will sell out - I just can't wait to DJ - I reckon it's gonna be a cracker. Any song requests?

Well, it'd better not, or I'll have to sue that bloke who sent me an invitation on Facebook just yesterday for emotional and financial damage. ;)

Matthew was saying that he's sold some tickets but I doubt it's sold out just yet. Eeeee, I'm so excited now. I love Bristol and that venue is ace. Pop, dancing and getting drunk. Aw, it's going to be a lovely night. Can't wait to see you all.

That was fun, save for the crazy locals.

I enjoyed myself immensely. And I think I found just enough 'hits' to keep people up and dancing!

Thanks Matthew and Heather for having us down for NYE!

I will have a list of the songs I played up on my personal blog soon-ish - but not necessarily in the order they were played.

Anyone know anyone in Bristol that might be looking for a housemate? I'm trying to move their next month and hoped some friendly folk here might be able to help :)

So what is Bristol like these days? I grew up about 20 miles from there just over the welsh border but always visited Cardiff way more often, and I only get to one or two gigs a year there now.

I'm moving there in the summer with a few others, I'm worried that I'll miss the number of great gigs there are in Cardiff. From here it looks like there's not quite as much going on in Bristol, though there are a few ace bands from there (but it seems like not as many as Cardiff has). We're talking about starting to put gigs on in Bristol when we move there if there isn't so much going on, but we talk about a lot of things...

thom wrote:There is alot going on in Bristol, its just there are not many people putting on Pop shows. There is a night called Twee in the Park that used to put on bands but has since become the sideshow to a mainstream indie/dance night. It doesn't really play that much indie pop in truth. Then there is Big Pink Cake, which is a brilliant indie pop night and they also put on bands. I am about to start (june 19th) a night called 'Ye Gods, I'm Simply Thrilled' so there is that as well.

It is pretty much the case that a, whilst there are pop fans in the city, there just aren't enough promoters that are dedicated to running indie pop shows.

in the case of bands, there are hardly any indie pop bands here. About 4, maybe 5.
That's pretty healthy really. I can't think of a UK city other than London with more proper indiepop bands than that.

Aw, I love Bristol. Big Pink Cake is just brilliant isn't it? Good luck with your night. Let me know if you need a band! I love Bristol.

Did I mention that I love Bristol?

last sunday i played at the Croft in Bristol for the first time in about 5 years. great fun, and i noticed that Rocker had been DJing in there the night before (i think).

just one question though - when did gigs shift from the back room into the side bar? The back room now smells Very Bad Indeed

i like playing Bristol though; that's the 4th time i've played there. The basement of the Here Gallery in 2004 with King Alexander was my favourite ever show round those parts, but The Croft is great and The Junction was pretty nifty despite the inexcapable odour of wee. I'm informed it's been done up, and now smells of paint AND wee.

anyway - cheers, Brizzle! i like you!

The wife and I have recently landed in Bristol. Is there anything good on the horizon?

I've been living in Bristol for a few months now and I've attended a disappointing number of gigs or indie-ish nights which aren't generic NME things, any suggestions?

The Middle ones are paying once a month at Cafe Kino all year (if I've got my facts straight*). So go along to one of those and see what you can weedle out of people, I suppose.

Also, the Here shop used to be amazing for all things DIY, though it appears to be mostly art stuff now.

I've not been to Bristol in aaaaaaaaaages.

*Balky Mule are playing tomorrow, The Middle Ones are playing on Sunday. Ace Bushy Striptease in April (w/ Middle Ones).

I've been to Big Pink Cake a few times - http://www.bigpinkcake.co.uk/ - it's really great. I was gutted to miss the Secret Shine / Felt Tips gig they put on a few weeks ago.

I think Kino are having quite a few gigs these days now they're in their bigger space, my bro's friends with all that crowd, they seem like a friendly bunch. I think there's quite a bit going on in that kinda scene, tho not all indie pop, definitely worth checking out. They do awesome pies too!

Like soft revolution down there, always keep an eye on what Big Pink Cake are doing (I've linked to their Facebook as their web site doesn't seem to be updated). They put on shows at The Croft. The one a few weeks ago with Secret Shine/The Felt Tips/Lisa Bouvier was fabulous. The praise afterward for the bands, the performances and the organisers was really, really great. There was such a happy and positive spirit about the whole thing. They only put on bands they like so it's not a regular thing. There will be an all-dayer in July (2nd, I believe).

I think The Croft regularly put on gigs anyway that you might be interested in so have a look at their web site if you haven't.

And I think it's great that Cafe Kino have moved to a bigger space (which is right across the street from The Croft) so they can not only have a nice cafe but also do some quiet gigs. They have really nice food and I like the chill feeling of the space.

That's bad timing - we'll probably be up north celebrating our wedding anniversary that weekend.

Anything going on in Bristol tonight worth a look? Not just indie stuff. Punk/metal/rock anything! Tried looking on the internet but my phone browsing is a bit shit. I appear to have missed all the good gigs by a day or two.
