A lot of you may already be members, but there is now a Facebook group for indiepop fans, musicians and promoters in the East Midlands area. It may be of use to you lot.

I've got a meeting on Pride Park on Friday morning, and it seems rude not to visit The Brunswick on pay day. Anyone around, perchance?

Derbys! Derbies? Er... if you're interested, the Brunswick Inn is the new featured pub at Get to the pub.com.

Not wishing to appear as some who indulges in blatant acts of self-publicity, can I just mention that MASCOT FIGHT + THE SUNBATHERS + ALICE FERGUSON + PAPAYER are playing at the Vaults in Derby tonight? There's a link on myspace here http://www.myspace.com/events/View/9288136/Mascot-Fight and an event on facebook (which doesn't seem to be working at the moment). Advert over. I'll go away now...

Hey Derby!
I'm going to be in Derby to see The Queers at the weekend.
Where's good to go for post-gig funs on a Friday?

I've seen the photos. It looks exactly the same. Thank god.
National awarded pub just keeps

getting better

An Everards pub, recognised as being one of the best in the country, is undergoing a makeover to improve its services further.

The Brunswick Inn, based in Derby, includes its own brew house and is known nationally for its outstanding ales, which are brewed on-site. Derby boasts a string of recognitions including being identified in the latest edition of the Lonely Planet Guide as the best place to drink real ale in the world and one of the top 10 places to visit in your lifetime.

The pub’s refurbishment extends across every room, including reconditioned furniture, new carpets, re-tiling and paintwork in the function room, bar, lounge, parlour, snug and board room. Pub licensee of nine years, Graham Yates hopes the new look will secure the pub’s position for future awards and recommendations.

Mr Yates, said: “We have made a conscious effort to maintain the pub’s character and heritage, but just improve it with a fresh new look.

“I haven’t ever pushed for awards, but it is fantastic that the Brunswick Inn has managed to achieve its reputation. I was once informed by a French – Canadian customer that he had been recommended by a friend in Texas to visit our pub – it is quite an achievement to be remembered on an international scale and we’re very proud of all the recognition we’ve been given.”

Graham was recently rewarded with a CAMRA (Campaign For Real Ale) plaque for selling consistently good ale. The Telegraph, Observer and Guardian have also named the pub as being one of the top ten in the country and it has been listed in the Good Pub Guide, Good Beer Guide and the AA Greatest Pubs Guide.

The pub dates back to 1841 and was accompanied with the brewery – believed to be the oldest in Derby - in 1991. The Brunswick Inn’s refurbishment is now complete and the pub is open as normal.

- Ends

My housemate does, but as a contractor rather than a permanent employee (and he has only been there about six months).

Mr Scott said the total cost of opening the business had been £8,500 – more than his initial estimate.
Hang about, can we open a pub for this much???
I am struck speechless by the nape of your neck.

I've been a few times now – it's really good. Annoyingly it’s a stones throw from my OLD house (which I moved out of in 2006).

Feels very continental, like you're sat in the bloke's living room. Shame they can't get an entertainments license as it would be perfecct for Totally Acoustic type gigs

I thought you didn't need a licence for small gigs any more?

Hmmm - is that so?

I know we saw the licensing papers because we had sent in supporting comments, and I'm pretty sure it said that no live or recorded music was allowed on the premises.

Maybe I'll check with him next time I'm in

Here you go. I remembered this because it's the one good thing this government has done.
