How's the murder trial affecting everyone then?

I wonder what it will do non-locals' perception of the town...

Sam,

Have you ever driven through Allenton? Like on your driving test?

It's the most terrifying thing I've ever experienced. The Spider Island, 2006.

I hate that fucking area. Type 'Allenton Derby' into a search engine. Without pressing enter.

Someone call the Karma Police.

"Hi, is this The Karma Police?

Yeah, we're having trouble with The Last Frontier of Terror.

Oh yeah that Matt guy. He didn't sleep for 24 hours once. He ended up spending all his DLA on coats that month. Seven. One transaction. Yeah, Uniqlo. It's Japanese. £357 all in a day. There's photographic evidence. He's not racist. He just can't sleep sometimes and watches Frank Bruno videos on YouTube.

Cheers then mate. See you at Indietracks 2013. The Secret History? Are you going?"

Alex mate. We met briefly at The Chameleon (RIP). It was the first night out The Rising Signs ever enjoyed.

You were there.

The drum machine that Haiku Salut used that night will go down in history.

Was I fine then? I wanted to form a rock band. That's all. Now I make beats for Freestyle Bully and RiFF RAFF.

WITH A LAUNCHPAD. You told me to fucking buy it. And I bought seven coats.

Count how many coats I now own. And how many drum machines.

Just thought I'd warn you all that I'm getting my buskers license renewed.

Look out for the lanky guy playing acoustic reworkings of Hold Steady songs. Hopefully, with a drum machine. It's gonna be fun!

7th July. The band haven't said where... they wanted a show in Nottingham, but there's not a lot of point in playing both places, so I'll pop over to see them, because they're ace.

Nice one Sam!

You thinking The Vic / Hairy Dog?

Ryan's Bar might be good for this actually. I've seen overseas bands come visit there.

I'm a bit out of touch since moving to Matlock, but there are definitely still a few things going on in Derby.

It's worth keeping an eye on Holy Smokes for gigs, they're doing fairly regular interesting ones at the moment.

A couple of friends of mine (both of whom are also called Tom, confusingly) do this monthly DJ night which is good fun: False 9

Neither of those things are specifically indiepop related but there's plenty of overlap.
