See! I told them they should've played in Brum.

Darren got to drink whisky as well as do the crossword and a Kakuro though so I think he was happy!

I have absolutely no idea what Kakuro means.

I've had some (relative) success with totally acoustic gigs in Brum. There's a pub by my house that let's me have the back room for nowt. I've put on MJ Hibbett, Gavin Osborn, David Leach, Frankie Machine, Allo Darlin', August Actually and, um, I think that's it. Anyway, everyone shuts the fuck up and it works and that surprised me but those gigs were fun!

None of them ever featured Kakuro, though (whatever that is).

Kakuro is like Sudoku, but better. I don't think there's generally a problem with acoustic gigs, but a bar predominantly full of people who are out just to drink and chat with their friends on a Friday night isn't the best place for them.

Yeah, one of the benefits of charging is it keeps people out, even just a couple of quid. Also, using slightly unusualy venues works too. But I guess that's for a different thread.

Anyone else still live here?!

I'm going to The Starlets tomorrow night at Tuts, Veronica Falls on the 26th of Feb at the CCA and the Kid Canaveral album launch at The Glad Cafe on the 1st of March.

Anything else going on?

The history of apple pie are playing in Glasgow in the first week of Feb, I think - well worth catching.

I've got tickets for the Kid Canaveral launch on the 1st (which is now sold out) but since buying them I've booked to go to London for Popfest. Anyone interested in buying them off me, or know anyone who is?

I'll look into coming through for Girls Names and Veronica Falls, though. Especially the latter, because their new album is fucking astonishingly good.

I've never actually listened to Girls Names before. What do they sound like?
Has anyone been to Broadcast for a gig yet?

Girls Names have that reverby JAMC thing going on, but their songs are more like 60s girl group songs sung by a bloke in 2013. That description is probably way off but that's what I get from them. I hear a bit of Crystal Stilts in the guitars too, but psychedelic freakout Stilts rather than the dirgey stuff.

Does that make any sense?

Keen on the 60s girl groups bit, not so keen on the reverby JAMC bit. I should probably just listen to them myself!

I think that might have been a rubbish description. Come to think of it, they're way closer to Crystal Stilts than JAMC, but not as gloomy.

Definitely, won't be going to Girls Names now as I have tickets for Joss Whedon's Much Ado at the GFT that night. I'm going to Camera Obscura, Veronica Falls and Kid Canaveral in the week following as well so it would probably have been a bit much anyway! Why is everything always around the same time?!

Won't be able to go to Yo La Tengo as I'm working late that night, but hopefully there will be a Yakuri Cable / Bodyheat gig at some point in March!

Princess Chelsea are playing at Broadcast on 21 May.

They're doing a wee uk tour, including Brighton, Mancs, London, Bristol.

And presumably everyone in the area knows about the Pastels/ the Wake gig at CCA on 1 June?
