Surely we can't not have a Central Library though. That would make Sheffield worse than Rotherham. And nowhere's worse than Rotherham.

The BBC website has a bit more information:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/uk-engla ... 14e457c132

it seems that they're moving the library somewhere else which is something at least. As long as they don't use it as an excuse to downgrade it's services.

A modern purpose built building might actually be a good thing for the library but based on what the council's been doing to our libraries that seems unlikely. It'll probably be in a back room at the Forum.

Not been to Bolton-on-Dearne then?

This could be either quite good or catastrophic, couldn't it. It's just how things work out around here. I mean if you could always trust the council to do what they say, it would be quite good. But we're way past that point.

Also learned about the Council's flood plans today which seem to involve chopping most of Sheffield's woodland down. Has anyone else heard anything about this?

If you care about Central library, come to the public meeting about it...

Oooh! Yeah! I didn't even know about this. Yeah!

Hardly been out lately. I've only had a drink on two days out of the last ten.

I'd heard about them chopping down trees and building the dam at Rivelin Valley - I didn't realise they were part of the same plan though. I'd actually heard kind of the opposite about cutting the trees down at Endcliffe Park - that they were having to build flood preventions measures because cutting down the trees will mean it's more likely to flood, not that the cutting down of trees would help prevent floods.

I also didn't know but I'll definitely be there! Do you have any more details Dan (start time/other bands)?

I'm going to see Soul II Soul tomorrow too - I can't remember the last time I went to see a band that 'normal' people will have heard of!

I'll try and come to that if I can but it's my second day at my new job so not sure of train times and stuff yet.

Reading that sounds a little more hopeful but I really think they should have worked out in advance what they're doing with the library before selling it off. And I am quite worried that it is really a plan to downgrade the facilities.

If that's the case then SCC are dafter than I thought. Wouldn't the easiest and cheapest option be to not chop trees down?

There's actually an astonishingly good recent precedent for a large city moving a central library to a purpose-built new location. If our council could do it like Birmingham did it, I'd be delighted. It's probably too big an 'if' though, isn't it?

Sorry to sound like a cynical old harbinger of doom, but recent events regarding the trees on Rustlings road have smashed whatever trust I had in the council to smithereens. I don't think they give two hoots about anything that benefits the people of Sheffield to be honest. Its all about money these days and I really don't think they'll invest anything like a sufficient amount to build an adequate replacement for the library as it is now. Also the central library is a public building and as such nothing should be decided without proper public consultation. And if its decided that selling is the best option a proper breakdown of what the money made from the selling of the building is spent on should be made public. Also the privatisation of our city centre is a whole other kettle of fish I could rant on about for ages but I'll save that for some other time.

Hats off to you for trying to find the silver lining though x

Can't copy and paste from the Failbook app for some reason.

Starts at 8pm, £6otd. It's an Action 4 Trans Health fundraiser. Other bands are:

Tuffragettes
Grotbaby
Dispute Settlement Mechanism (no really)

Presumably you've got long enough hair to affect the Jazzie B look?
