That was Robin Fridayon the cover. He used to play for Cardiff & Reading. Apparently used to give v signs to the opposition goalie as he put the ball past them into the net!
My mate read that book about Robin Friday recently, said it's a cracking read.

Wasn't there some guy at Forest who was in an 'indie' band? He had the blonde hair, and looked like that actor whose name I can't remember.
This is bad comedy.

Paul MacGregor, wasn't it? Weren't his band called Merc? They were Oasis-lite, weren't they?

So many questions.

It was him. He was shit. Scored a key goal in the UEFA Cup and a winning goal against Man Utd, so along with looking a bit different, he was a bit of a fan favourite. I liked the way the band logo for his band Merc was just the Forest badge. Lazy cunt.

Here he is sporting a mullet while playing for Northampton Town.

Oh yeah!

Sponsored names don't sound so bad when the sponsor is something cool like that. I wish our new ground could be sponsored by someone better than an oil company. The Conoco Stadium sounds rubbish. I'd much prefer something like The Buffy The Vampire Slayer Stadium.

Didn't Cherry Red sponsor a league a few years back, too?

Um, not football, but they play "My hometown" by The Wannadies every time Skellefteå (ice hockey) score...
A bit OT, but I didn't start it! And, it's still a cracking tune.

Going to have a glance at the stadium (yeah, and a look at AFC, too) in January.
Looking forward!

This is a beauty!

"I can understand why Stranraer are so lowly,
They could have saved a lot of points by signing Hibs goalie"

Cap In Hand by the Proclaimers. Smart.

That is indeed a belter, even if the rhyme is accent-dependent.

That's part of what makes it so good.

EDIT: like Bohemians' terrace chant for Connor Powell: "today a tadPowell, tomorrow a frog" - only works in a Dublin accent!
There ain't no-one gonna turn me round

I'm confused...doesn't "goalie" rhyme with "lowly" in any accent?

Speaking of confusion, the front page of the Guardian says something like "Man Utd earn a point after penalty miss". Which is fine, except it was a cup game.

Stereolab used to sponsor the (now defunct) East Ham United amateur club in the Isthmian League. They had a nifty green and white kit with the band's name across the front. (I totally wanted that kit, but they were never for sale.)

Bands writing songs for individual MLS teams. The Polyphonic Spree's song for FC Dallas is well pop. It's ace. Best song they've ever done anyway.

You can download it here...

They just played the Shop Assistants - I Don't Want to be Friends With You on the sportscene results. And Pat Nevin's not even on today!
