In the 1960s, British Rail proposed a glass-roof observation train for the West Highland line. Just imagine:

I'm sure they've brought this up again recently, though I imagine it won't happen. It is a truly beautiful journey but the train they run on it at the moment is pretty crappy and the state of the windows is a disgrace.
