Re: Sheffield

Still hoping to make it, though I'm Home Alone in the office this week so that'll depend on no server going BANG just before 12.30... ;-)

Re: Rough Trade - Indiepop 09

The [Indie Top 20] compilations went a bit crap post 1992, as I remember. It was from either volume 17 or 18 (either way, it was one of the 1993 releases in the series) that major-distributed tracks appeared alongside those independently distributed, the latter having been an absolute prerequisite ...

not on c86 but it still has me up and dancing like it was roughly 1986 all over again http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G1uvVa11cFE Ooh, splendid! I was playing this last night - dug out my old LP copy of Indie Top 20 vol. 2 . Been humming this, Crawl Babies and Built Like A Car all morning as a conse...

Re: 20/8 LDN - Je Suis Animal + Still Corners + HK60s

I adore Je Suis Animal and have never seen them and Hong Kong in the 60s were one of my favourite performances at Indietracks 2009. Other way round for me - JSA were immense at Indietracks (just about the last thing in the church all weekend, I think), but I missed Hong Kong. Hope this trio of acts...

Re: They're bringing back The Krypton Factor!

Is this the time/place to casually drop in the fact that I was a contestant on Young Krypton back in the very distant past? It certainly is. Nice work! That must have been about 20 years ago, as I think someone in my year at school got onto that as well when she was 14-15 or thereabouts. You just a...

Re: They're bringing back The Krypton Factor!

Was that not the one where at the end the contestant would have to navigate a grid with the pillar of light on the grid - an if they stepped into the light then they would evaporate?? The Vortex! As loving superimposed onto the screen by a BBC Micro (probably). I recall the contestant involved bein...

Hello Jeremy! I didn't know you were on Anorak. Lovely meeting you too! I really enjoyed our chat about Subway and Sarah records. Now I know why Victor has such a fine taste in music :-) Hahahahaha. He'll choke on his chickpeas at the very idea, Christos! Mind, I do still find the odd thing before ...

Re: Amelia Fletcher on Radio 4, Monday August 2nd 9.30am

The Wedding Present never appeared on Top Of The Pops? (Alright, probably not when Amelia was singing with them, but even so) That can't be right! Certainly remember the Weddoes miming to both Brassneck and Make Me Smile (Come Up and See Me) on the show during 1990, even before the numerous appeara...

Oooh, ta muchly for the dates, Everard! Definitely want to catch them at some point. Suspect I'm already working on the 23rd-24th, so it might just have to be a trip across t't Pennines on the 20th instead. Shame they don't tend to revisit old material particularly - would have loved to hear them do...

Re: Amelia Fletcher on Radio 4, Monday August 2nd 9.30am

I have to point out my Radio 4 nerdness factor by having pointed this out in the Tender Trap thread last week . I feel better now. Ah, didn't look there. I hope the redoubling of effort won't have annoyed anyone. :-) LOL A Layer Of Chips - understand where you're coming from! Next week - Michael Go...

Amelia Fletcher on Radio 4, Monday August 2nd 9.30am

From the Radio 4 website: Alan Johnson: Failed Rock Star Episode 3 Today, 09:30 on BBC Radio 4 Ex Home Secretary Alan Johnson goes in search of the life he thought he nearly had: as a rock star. In the 1960s Alan Johnson was in a band ("The Area") that cut a single but couldn't get it released. He g...

Re: Stars of Aviation's thread

Lucky we were! Splendid, splendid set - one of the highlights of the weekend for me. Enjoyed the self-deprecating reading out of the, um, lukewarm review from earlier in the week - graciously yet very amusingly handled. Well done all concerned!

I'm going to go to Pride. What better way to celebrate one's sexuality than by getting drunk in a field while watching the Cheeky Girls and a Pink impersonator. God, I hate the gays. "A lifetime of listening to disco music is a high price to pay for one's sexual preference". - Quentin Crisp gc

Re: Nottingham

uttoxeter. i'll leave you to decide whether that's exciting or not. Uttoxeter excites me on racedays. It also used to excite Amelia Fletcher enough that she put an appeal in a Sarah Records newsletter once for Heavenly to be able to play a gig in the town. No deeper reason for this, apparently, tha...

Re: Indietracks 2010 memories and photos

Ironically, eFestivals write the worst festival reviews in the world, and Indietracks gets the full gun. http://www.efestivals.co.uk/festivals/indietracks/2010/review-overview.shtml Jesus Suzanne Christ, that's a flawed attempt at a review from yr efestivals man right there. The one line that's jus...
