Re: The Mac Thread

has anybody got one of the current 15" macbook pros? i'm so, so tempted to sell my imac, a guitar, a synth and my acer aspire one to afford one... my imac is only going to get more and more outdated/ worthless (its less than 18 months old, but still) and they just look so damn good... and of course...

Re: The Football

it would be a shock to see united not win the league, but there are a few tough games between now and the end of the season- liverpool, villa and arsenal mostly, but also man city which has been a little unpredictable in the last few years... then again, if we beat liverpool they'll be as good as ou...

Re: The Mac Thread

i'd recommend omnidisksweeper, i'm always leaving zip archives and diskimages and all that sort of thing lying around and forgetting about them, so it saves a fair amount of hard drive space.

Re: Football Manager/Championship Manager

FM2009 is so frustrating. I'm managing Wigan, I feel like I have a great team considering it's Wigan, a bunch of veteran ('cos 32 is old on FM) players (Shevchenko, Silverstre, Belletti, just got rid of Larsson after a good season from him, I also inexplicably have a 38 year old Rivaldo...) and then...

Re: The Football

does anyone know much about this fabian delph kid at leeds? there were rumours of all the big premiership teams putting in £10m bids for him and i think a couple of slightly more realistic but still crazy for such a young player bids of about £3m from fullham or someone similar, i've never seen him ...

Re: Guitars

that could either be incredibly awesome or just plain awful... i'm leaning towards awful right now. as much as i love synths and guitars, combining the two seems foolish and impractical on every level really. unrelated, i really like the look of the squire duo sonic at the moment, its a shame its sh...

Re: The Football

keane would be especially pointless if that goes ahead, he couldn't play with defoe in the first place which is probably half the reason defoe got sold, so why re-unite them? i prefer defoe anyway i think. I'd disagree with that last bit, actually. Keane was always a solid, hard-working member of t...

sorry to drag this back to premiership talk... what the hell are spurs doing buying all the players they've sold in the last year? keane would be especially pointless if that goes ahead, he couldn't play with defoe in the first place which is probably half the reason defoe got sold, so why re-unite ...

Re: Google Chrome

I don't really think there's any need for it either.

What I really want is someone to make a browser that is incredibly minimal and will run on the slowest computers fine. Firefox on ubuntu on my acer aspire one is so irritatingly slow.

Re: Those tiny ickle laptops like Eees and what have you

I've got an acer aspire one. I've put ubuntu linux on there cos i couldn't get along with the default one, though adding ubuntu has slowed down the boot time significantly (but it's still okay, the original OS was super fast at booting). Mine is the version with 512MB RAM and the 8GB solid state HD,...

Re: recording on computers

i use a crack of ableton to fuck around with and irritate neighbours by layering a stupid number of random loops, but i've never really used it seriously. for a while i was considering buying it when i was in the habit of actually trying to make music with it, but maybe i'm just too used to doing th...

Re: The Mac Thread

non-removable battery on the new 17" macbook pros?

the benefits will have to be pretty massive for that to be anything but totally lame... is 1000 charges really that many if you're a heavy user? then you're stuck with a £1500 (or whatever) aluminium slab that's useless...

Re: The Mac Thread

the head set should certainly work, maybe check in system preferences/ sound and check it set to line in, not built in mic.

it's a joke about 4od, i don't know if it's still a DRM issue or just stupidity.

Re: The Linux Thread

Yeah, I just about could, but I'm not even totally sure what I did. It seemed like I tried the same thing several times with no luck, then I left it until the morning and it worked... I half-suspect it was something as stupid as not turning the hardware wi-fi switch on, but it's still something I wa...

Re: The Linux Thread

I just got myself an acer aspire one, I couldn't get along with the default linpus OS so I've put ubuntu 8.10 on there, it was surprisingly simple to install it via a usb stick, the wireless was incredibly tricky to get working, but I got there in the end. The start up time isn't anywhere near as fa...

Re: A thread about pedals

I'm after some advice on loop pedals. I want to be able to layer up guitar tracks live, and maybe play a synth through it too. I've got a line 6 DL4, but that's really more for the delays, the loop function is really just a tacked on extra function. The digitech jam man looks almost perfect, but it'...

Re: The Mac Thread

I'm a hypocrite, I don't like the idea of people using os x on PCs on any large scale because I think it would be a shame for apple to stop being a hardware company, but I kind of want to have a go at building my own 'hackintosh', you could probably build something to rival a mac pro for pennies, co...

Re: Football Manager/Championship Manager

I don't think the 3D mode runs on my brother's macbook either, which has made him not bother upgrading from 08 when he almost certainly would've bought it already if the 3D mode didn't exist. Pretty stupid logic, but I can imagine others thinking the same if their computers don't meet the specs for ...

Re: The Football

Are there any Bristol City fans on here? One of my sister's friends has just signed a professional contract with them, getting something like 150k a year apparently. 150k a year and he's 19 and lives with his parents (despite earning more than them now)! That's just silly money. I played with him w...
