Re: The Mac Thread

Slightly worrying reports about the SATA controller in the new Macbook Pros only being the older 1.5GB/S type, not the newer 3GB/S ones... Its pretty unimportant in any performance related way, but if it turns out that it is a deliberate move by Apple (rather than a firmware issue) it's quite a shoc...

Re: The Mac Thread

I wonder what compatibility between 10.5 and 10.6 will be like, specifically with Pro Tools which took ages to be supported officially on Leopard... I'm going to order the Macbook Pro on Monday I think, I'm pretty excited. I heard somewhere that students get 3 year warranty as standard, does anyone ...

Re: The Football

I don't think you'll find many United fans angry about the Ronaldo transfer, as great as he is a player is never going to be at their best if they want to leave, and £80m is just silly money. One problem I think United might have is that none of the world's very best players are for sale... Messi, I...

Re: The Mac Thread

I'm trying to work out a fair price to advertise my iMac for. I bought it in October 2007, its the newest kind of iMac design (the back/ metallic one), 20" and has a 2GHz Core2Duo, 1GB of RAM, 250GB HD and Apple Care until October 2010, running Leopard, I'd probably sell it with Logic 8 pre-installe...

Re: The Mac Thread

the macbook lineup is really confusing now though... there's only a £150 price difference between the white macbook and the entry level macbook pro, the top 13" pro is only £150 cheaper than the cheapest 15" with almost exactly the same specs, and the mid-priced 15" seems needless to me. i think i'm...

Re: The Mac Thread

there's firewire 800 on the 13" macbook pros! i assumed that they'd just re-badged the aluminium macbooks.

i'm in heaven.
its probably the most minor bit of news from the whole thing, but that's great.

Re: The Mac Thread

I might as well get the WWDC ball rolling... I'm impressed that 10.6 will have a 6GB smaller footprint, but most desktops and full size laptops have huge drives these days, so I'm still holding out for a tablet type thing in the future. Handwriting recognition on the trackpad? that's pretty cool. Th...

Re: The Football

If this "pre-contract" nonsense between Real Madrid and Man United regarding Ronaldo is true, I wonder what the chances of Real trying to wriggle out of paying quite so much and United getting angry about it, insisting that they have to pay the agreed price... much like they've tried to do with Tev...

Re: Running

i just managed to run all the way across the severn bridge and back, i'm quite impressed with myself, i only expected to be able to make it half way... though i did manage to pull a muscle towards the end and being on that bridge on foot is pretty scary. i'm just bragging really... i should try and ...

Re: songwriting

I kind of have the very opposite problem I'm constantly coming up with instrumental song 'ideas' that I give to my band's singer for him to add singing, because I am utterly, utterly useless when it comes to singing and writing lyrics, but it never, ever comes to anything, even though we're both qui...

Re: The Mac Thread

literally the only thing stopping me from using safari over firefox right now is the bar at the bottom of the screen that displays the target of a link if you hover over it in firefox... is there a way to get that in safari?

Re: The Football

AAAAHhhhhhhhhh!!!! My head is a shed...i can't stand it any more. One week to go and we've got Man U on last day of the season. Mmmmm....wonder if they'll play the under 12 squad against us? Surely it's worth offering them, the referee and the FA a bribe...c'mon Duffen, get your money out ya tight b...

Re: The Football

I'm so glad United won the league today, mostly for the obvious reasons, but also because I would really hate to see all the players celebrating at Hull if they've just got relegated, would be pretty tactless and it really is a shame how their season has turned out, I hope they somehow stay up.

Re: Running

I meant to start running... I bought a pair of trainers that I'd never wear casually and everything. I just find the whole thing damn embarrassing, I'm pretty far from the athletic type... And there's too many hills around here, which doesn't help. Maybe I'll pick it up again once the weather gets n...

Re: recording on computers

the looper function looks very fun, i'm very tempted to buy live 8 almost exclusively for that... when you consider the cost of a decent loop pedal and all the additional stuff you can do in live its a pretty good deal... but then i guess anything i do with the looper on my line 6 delay is never muc...

Re: Hi-Fi Hardware - Turntables, Valves & Tapes

Richer Sounds were so great about giving me a new one, I had no receipt, I bought it online not in their store and half the supplied extras were missing, but they still just gave me the new one. Its missing a drive belt though, so I'll have to go back to Cardiff tomorrow which is about an hours driv...

Re: Hi-Fi Hardware - Turntables, Valves & Tapes

i have a massive post-atp hangover, so excuse any stupidity here... the protractor i have is a balancing thing as well (a see-saw type thing), i set the down force with that. i assumed that was the problem at first, the fact that some signal (even if its quiet and distorted) comes through made me th...
