Re: The Mac Thread

my imac screen has gone funny. the top menu bar --with File, Edit, View, Go, Window, Help on one side and the bluetooth, airport, sound, and language icons, plus date, time and search on the other side-- doesn't all fit on the screen at once. Also, my dock (of programs), which I keep at the bottom,...

Re: be random about science

i've spent a few days trying to get my head around plant taxonomy. There's so many relationships you'd never guess. Like wasabi and papaya (!) or lotus and sycamore. okra, hibiscus, and durian are all in the same order. The trouble with this is that it is very addictive! I can't stop typing the name...

Re: Not Everyone Wants To Be Your Dog

careful what you wish for folks. anytime i've tried to talk to someone at work with a cool band t-shirt, they seem to be complete freaks utterly lacking in social skills and run scared at the thought of having to discuss their interests. having said that, discovering that someone you already are get...

Re: General Chat About Films And That

which should i show for movie night: revolutionary road or an education? I'm probably too late here, but I thought An Education was really good. Haven't seen the other one, though. I'm off to see Inception tonight. In the mood for something short, light and forgettable - hope it fits the bill! (win...

Re: ATP Presents BOWLIE 2 Festival Curated by Belle & Sebast

I totally can't afford to go to this anymore - I booked the tickets overzealously. If anyone wants to buy two tickets for a double room off of me at cost price, (£330, which is minus the £24 booking costs I initially paid) PM me. Anyone? Please? if i can find someone who wants to share, i might go ...

Re: Vegan & Vegetarian Food

i had an Indian flatmate in grad school who used to make this very pretty beet root dish: grate beet root and cook with some hot pepper. grate coconut and cook that in too. put over rice. The coconut and rice go pink from the beet root juice. it's totally yum, too.

Re: New Directions: Glee!

Ahaha, you are me sometimes, I swear! I've been keeping a best tv dad ever list in my head too! I do love Cory Monteith, not just because he's cute/charming, I just like his awkward acting style, and Finn I think could so easily be overdone in a really self-conscious pretty boy dumb way, but I thin...

I will be watching the World Cup final in an izakaya in Okinawa with a Belgian cheering for Holland and a Mexican cheering for Spain and a Brazilian looking a bit lost. Is that worldly enough for you?

Re: New Directions: Glee!

so half of glee got nominated for emmys: lea michelle (rachel), jane lynch (sue sylvester), chris colfer (kurt), and mr. shu. would it be mean for me to say i don't think mr. shu deserves it? I'm not sure if it's a fault of the actor or the writers, but all the other characters are so deliciously ov...

Re: Friday Night Lights

Connie Britton and Kyle Chandler are both up for Emmys. Shame Zach Gilford isn't also being recognized. Still, finally there's some justice for an amazing show.

For all you Glee fans, loads of them are up for awards, too, including Jane Lynch and Chris Colfer.

Re: Drink combinations...

i just had a really amazing cocktail: awamori (Okinawan sake--a bit like vodka, only made with rice), cassis and shikwasa (Okinawan lime). totally yum. I had two and they were served in beer glasses (on the small side for beer, but on the f*cking huge size for cocktails). I should be drunk, but real...
